Marriage adviser resigns over Satan-homosexuality column
Source: Washington Post

A policy adviser to the U.S. Catholic bishops’ anti-gay-marriage initiative resigned on Friday (Nov. 4), a week after writing a column that blamed Satan for homosexuality.

Daniel Avila had been an on-staff adviser to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage since June.

Unofficially, Avila referred to himself as the “bishops’ marriage guy” and represented the USCCB’s stance on marriage in Washington.

Sister Mary Ann Walsh, a spokeswoman for the USCCB, said Avila “willingly offered his resignation, and it was accepted.”

And the Editor(s) and Publisher(s) who saw fit to green-light the article into print?

1. That's basically what they believe isn't it though?

Otherwise, why would they be opposing gay marriage, right? That's what's at the core of it with these people, right? This guy just didn't properly conceal it.

4. It's a little more/different than that
The Catholic Church's policy has always been not to perform any marriage ceremonies where there is no possibility of having children -- except in extreme circumstances
example: Both are very near death and they'd like to be married before they depart (and have never been married in a Catholic ceremony prior)
If you were the King of a Country

For many years, the policy has been not to perform a marriage ceremony if they knew one of the people involved was sterile

Had the Catholic Church just stuck with, "We won't perform marriages for any couple where the marriage has no chance of producing children. But whatever the civil courts do is their business." they'd have been o.k.
But the church moved so far to the right during John Paul II's reign, that the loonies joined in droves (Brownback), gave haven to people who are bizarre (Santorum), the morally corrupt (Gingrich) and the morally bankrupt (many of the Cardinals and Bishops)

7. SERIOUSLY?
So 50somethings need not apply? Unless it's a 50 year old guy marrying a young chickie babe?

11. Advanced age is okay, because of Sarah (Abraham's wife) in the bible.
But if sex itself is impossible, then marriage isn't permitted. There was a recent case where the church refused to marry a couple where the man was a paraplegic and (I'm trying to put this gently) incapable of consummating in the usual fashion.

8. And yet Catholics are more liberal toward gays
than their protestant counterparts. I saw a poll within the last year or so, in which 70 percent of American Catholics agreed that gay marriage should be allowed.

Apparently, the Catholic clergy is not listening to their adherents any more than the American government listens to its citizens.

9. Opus Dei ties?
He has to have ties to Opus Dei because he sounds more like a backwoods Dominionist preacher than a mainstream Catholic.

That cult organization should never have been approved by the Church. They give real Catholics a bad name.
