Occupy Wall Street Marchers To Cover Most Of Manhattan
By: NY1 News

Occupy Wall Street protesters will march in a mini-marathon of their own in Manhattan on Monday, when hundreds will trek from 181st Street in Washington Heights down to Zuccotti Park.

Protesters say the roughly 11-mile march down St. Nicholas Avenue and Broadway is intended to connect all of the city's communities to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Led by community leaders, elected officials and grassroots organizers, the marchers will make several stops on the way end with a solidarity demonstration at Zuccotti Park, where protesters have been camped since mid-September.

Resist austerity. Reclaim the economy. Recreate our democracy.

*UPDATE - schedule of events*

Wall Street- 7:00 am: Resist austerity! SHUT DOWN WALL STREET
Enough of this economy that divides us - it's time for an economy that works for all. We will gather at 7:00 a.m., before the ring of the Trading Floor Bell, to confront Wall Street with the stories of people on the frontlines of economic injustice. There, before the Stock Exchange, we will exchange stories rather than stocks.

All Five Boroughs- 2:30 pm: Reclaim our democracy! OCCUPY THE SUBWAYS
Throughout the boroughs, we will gather at 7 central subway hubs, to listen to a singular story from one of our hardest-hit and most inspirational neighbors.
Bronx: Fordham Rd, and 3rd Ave/138th
Brooklyn: Broadway Junction, and Borough Hall
Queens: Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave, and Jamaica Center Parsons Archer
Manhattan: 125th st, and Union Square
Staten Island: St George/Staten Island Ferry

Then we will take our own stories to the trains, using the "People's Mic". We will rise up from the underground to join thousands of others gathered in the light of day, at Foley Square.

Foley square- 5 pm-: Rebuild our economy! TAKE THE SQUARE
Across the country, our infrastructure is falling apart; our bridges, our roads, our public transit systems are in a state of disrepair. Enough! It's time to revitalize our economy with the creation of local jobs which serve our country as a whole! At 4:00 pm, we celebrate with tens of thousands of people as we gather at Foley square, march to our bridges and demand that we get back to work! The celebration will culminate in a festival of light as we mark the two-month anniversary of the #occupy movement!

Take a sick day, come out from the darkness surrounding Wall Street and into the light!

Resist austerity. Rebuild the economy. Reclaim our democracy.

24. Love OWS and this poster. See all the union bugs at the bottom.
Hope we get updates on the march in this thread. I'm so heartened to hear of all their actions. It's about all that I check online for now.

2. Step 1 Achieved
This movement has definitely gotten the attention they are desiring. The whole world is listening and joining in.

Can we please move this conversation forward? I'll be honest, I have no clue what the occupy movement is about. It's obvious banks are the target, but what's the goal? What is the desired outcome?

I think some core ideas need to be agreed upon, and there needs to be some people available to speak to those ideas. It seems a lot of the crowds are unprepared and uninformed, and it is watering down the message.

3. Wherre do you live? you need to go there. It will all become quite clear quickly.
Please google occupy los angles and listen to Robert Reich speak. that was yesterday, SAturday. there was ateachin. you can hear speakers from occupy London, occupy Wisconsin, economist, and others. Your questions will be answered.

in short: We want a political system whihc can not be "bought" i.e. is NOT corrupt,
a more equal dsitribution fo welath and responsibility.
an end to the wars.
respect for Unions.

Remember the change we all voted for? That is what we want. There is nothing unclear at all.
The current economic system and it's political corruption need to end. Call it regulatory capitalism if you want.

21. Kentucky
Unfortunately, Kentucky is often a few years behind everyone.

I think Atlanta is the nearest action to me.

I'll read some of the stuff here, it beats watching the news find the biggest stoner who has no clue what he's doing there.

14. If you go to an encampment and ask them
you will find out.
First of all, this "movement" is only about 6 weeks old. It took quite a long time for people to wake up. Please don't expect things to happen in a quick time frame. It will take time.
People in the Occupy movement are talking about running a candidate in each congressional district, and those seats are not up for grabs until next year.
I'm afraid you will have to wait, or become the change you wish to see.

15. I think the OWS will create by consensus support for a certain stance on some issues,
mostly on reducing social inequalities and ways to weaken the influence of the capital in politics. Right now, the banks are the main target, for that's where the big $$ are perceived to be. Maybe the next target will be the politicians that are bought by the big $$. Whatever the case, people will keep on protesting as long as they see themselves as the 99%, going against the 1%.

22. Weaken the influence of capital?
Wow...there's a real easy way to do that. Stop allowing political campaigns on television. That's where the overwealming majority of campaign money goes...just dry up the swamp.

Do you think OWS would get behind that idea? Because I'm sure the 99% of the rest of us are sick of hearing, "and I approve this message."

11. Probably, but the march isn't going quite the full length
Manhattan is 20 north-south blocks to a mile. So from 181st street to where the street numbers start is nine miles. Zuccotti Park is further south -- and when they marched up to Union Square, which is at 14th street, that was about two-and-a-half miles.

So eleven miles for the march altogether makes sense -- and the street numbers go up to 220th, which makes another two miles north of the starting point, for your total of thirteen.

Sorry, but NYC doesn't equal Manhattan. The real marathon hits all five boroughs.

The all-boroughs action seems to be the 17th.
