Anonymous Video Calls For Shutdown Of Iowa Caucuses
Source: Talking Points Memo

A video credited to the hacker group Anonymous calling for the peaceful shut down of the Iowa Caucuses is garnering attention from law enforcement.

“Both parties are desecrating the American democracy and committing crimes against humanity on behalf of the American people,” a computer-generated voice says in the video.

The voice goes on to call the caucuses and primaries an “elaborate scam that deceives the public into voting for candidates that serve the private interests of the mega corporations,” before asking people to “occupy” campaign offices on December 27 and “peacefully shut own the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3.”

The FBI considers Anonymous a potential national security threat and has carried out more than 75 raids against the group.

Occupy Des Moines sought to distance itself from Anonymous. “There might be some overlap” in beliefs, “but Anonymous speaks for themselves and the Occupy Movement speaks for itself, ” David Goodner, a demonstrator who speaks on behalf of Occupy Des Moines told the Des Moines Register. “Whether the public can understand that or not, I’m not sure, but for me there’s a clear difference.”

27. Always loved your sig.
The GOP Iowa caucuses* are as guilty of everything the releases says, but are so far out of touch with most of the world I doubt they can be hacked.

And no amount of complaint will change their mean spirited ways. Some guy had a sig here that I really loved, about how the GOP serves the Beast. As long as they think they'll get a piece of the action, money and control over others, they'll never change.

That's these guys, and they're no different than the Scott Walker, etc. supporters. The only way to stifle them is to out vote them.

I wish Anonymous would go after the Koch Bros. and their minions in a way that would give those who don't want to serve as their slaves a chance to speak. Anonymous, despite disappointments have helped to release an avalanche of much needed information to bring about social change. *However, nothing will wake the dead.

Have a nice evening.

18. I tend to agree with you. I have been to Iowa caucuses and they are
in every county. The ones I attended in NW Iowa were actually in family homes with maybe 10 people attending (as you know NW IA is pretty rethug area). I also attended ones in Iowa City where they are actually held in the same building as the police force offices. If they would have told me that they are going to shut down one of the biggest in Des Moines then I would say they have a chance.

Also since it is the caucus that writes the platform and votes on it - would it not be better to go there and get a say in writing the platform? That is why I went.

I usually agree with everything that Anonymous wants to do but this one I actually think there is a better way to deal with a caucus.

6. “Whether the public can understand that or not, I’m not sure, but for me there’s a clear difference"
I'm not sure that the "public" (or the Lemmings-Off-the-Cliff crowd) knows anything
more than shoving a Big Mac in their mouth, playing video games, talking / texting while driving
and picking their nose.

14. The Iowas caucuses are bogus.
Iowa is not representative of most of the country.

Why are we letting these people dictate the political issues and climate of the country.

23. Everything I Need to Know About the Iowa Caucuses I Learned in 2004 / 2008
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 06:47 PM by NashVegas
When Dennis Kucinich directed his people to shut out Dean by going to Edwards, and then four years later turned around and directed them *away* from Edwards.

Iowa is not about selecting a potentially great president. It's about making sure whomever the party brass wants to get the nom, gets the nom.

24. Well, no shit. No one state = the other 49 states.
No state represents "most of the country," obviously. What a moronic statement. But "those people" are as American as you are, and like it or not, their votes and opinions are just as valid as the votes and opinions of people from California or New York (which, by the way, don't represent "most of the country," either).

As Iowa is traditionally a very moderate swing state, it's actually a great place to have a primary.

17. A Caucus is NOT an Election
A Caucus: a closed meeting of a group of persons belonging to the same political party or faction usually to select candidates or to decide on policy; also : a group of people united to promote an agreed-upon cause
