Republican Don Stenberg's attempt to crank up his meager fundraising efforts got a boost Tuesday from tea partiers.
Stenberg landed the endorsement of tea party favorite U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, a Republican whose political committee promised to help raise $100,000 over the next seven days for Stenberg's cash-strapped campaign.
DeMint called Stenberg a "true conservative" who needs help raising dollars on the national stage. He would get the money from DeMint's political action committee known as the Senate Conservatives Fund.
"The biggest challenge for Stenberg is fundraising. The one complaint I hear most about him from the D.C. political class is that he can't raise money. This, of course, should be expected. He's a grassroots candidate and doesn't have national fundraising connections like establishment candidates," wrote DeMint in a news release.
