Man says he got involved in fight over signs

Posted: 3:20 PM

CLEVELAND - A voter in Cuyahoga County told NewsChannel5 he was bitten in the nose by an Election Day rover.

The alleged physical assault happened at the polling location outside Gloria Day Evangelica Lutheran Church on Memphis Avenue in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, Greg Flanagan, went to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. He called NewsChannel5 as he was leaving the hospital to go home. It was not immediately clear if Flanagan got the opportunity to vote.

Flanagan said the incident started when he saw a man arguing with a woman about signs she had outside the polling location. The man was claiming the woman's signs were too close, and Flanagan said the situation was combative. He said he stepped in to try to help the woman.

10. All kidding aside ...
they really ARE making it difficult to vote here in Cuyahoga County.

The ballots are a jumbled, confusing mess. They are bilingual which is great but whichever repuke was in charge of making them hard to read did a superlative job. It took us several minutes to figure out which page to start on and it went down from there. There was nothing intuitive about them. I'm sure senior citizens will be confused as all heck and they'll end up throwing half of them out as 'misvotes' or somesuch ... but then, that is the whole point!

Here in Cuyahoga we can always count on the repukes to muck up the ballots.

Going out to vote is effort enough, without having to include a trip to the hospital.

15. Election worker bites voter's nose outside Cleveland polling place
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A poll monitor working for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, assaulted a voter at a polling place in Cleveland at midday Tuesday, sending the voter to a hospital.
Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Director Jane Platten said the monitor, known as a "rover," got into a dispute with a campaign worker over the legal distance campaign workers must be from the polling place door, which is 100 feet.

"He heard somebody say something," said Platten. "He walks back and beats up the voter."
Flanagan, 49, of Cleveland, said, "He head-butted me. He bit my nose. He tried to bite it off."

21. Not "bitten on the nose" -- tried to bite nose off!
Head butted him then grabbed his head and tried to bite his nose off! Wow.

If this poll worker was a dog he would be put down.
