NBA Union: No Deal; No Fear of Ultimatum, Either
Source: AP-Excite

By BRIAN MAHONEY

NEW YORK (AP) - NBA players made it clear Tuesday: No deal.

No fear of Commissioner David Stern's ultimatum, either.

"The current offer on the table from the NBA is one that we cannot accept," players' association president Derek Fisher said.

Instead, the players said they will ask for another meeting with owners before Stern's Wednesday afternoon deadline - and sound willing to agree to a 50-50 split of revenues under the right circumstances - in an attempt to end the lockout and save the season.

2. So high income workers shouldn't have the right to bargain based on their value?
I guess they should just shut up and take whatever deal the billionaire owners offer them and be happy about it?

one thing athletes haven't done is help to wreck the economy, or start wars, like the people we vote for, you know, to help the poor and working class.

7. Which one would you like?
Almost all high-paid athletes have done community service work, and donated to local charities.

A large chunk of American Samoa's education budget comes from NFL players. Them big Samoans make excellent linemen, and the place is so poor the schools didn't even have grass to play on until the players started sending money "home".

3. The owners have not been bargaining in good faith from the beginning
This lockout (not strike) has been driven by the owners of the worst teams in the league who aren't concerned about losing another non-playoff season.

The players went in agreeing to a much smaller cut, but it wasn't good enough. It has become apparent that the owners were not interested in any reasonable compromise.

At this point I hope they decertify the union, clearing the way for anti-trust litigation.

8. That was my reaction too
I'm a basketball fan, but honestly I'm not missing the season that much. These guys are risking people forgetting about them and going on to other interests.
