State Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc, became the first state legislator to be recalled in a generation after he conceded defeat in a recall election today.

The recall was backed by the Michigan Education Association.

Election turnout was high across Scott’s district, which covers much of south Genesee County, but appeared to be especially strong in union strongholds near the City of Flint where the vote counts were delayed.

5. Why do these Minorities Love the GOP?
Why is it that people like Paul Scott and Bobby Jindal love the GOP? The GOP still wants them to be in the white coats serving them drinks at the club. It's only the phrase "yes massa (nee master)" that they can't insist on anymore.

30. Because it's easier for a mediocre politician to advance that way
The Democratic Party is more or less a meritocracy where you have to prove yourself in political battle.

The GOP, on the other hand, operates on the assumption that they can endorse policies which only favor the 1% as long as those policies are marketed slickly enough to pull in electoral majorities. This means, among other things, that they groom and promote any minority candidate who can be used to argue that the GOP is not actually acting against the interests of that particular minority.

It's a hateful and demeaning practice overall -- but it means that if you happen to be a loser who could never make it as a Democrat, you might just be cut out to succeed as a Republican.

Proves that people have to be pushed to extremes to act in their own best interests.

14. It's a start
The last time a Michigan state legislator was successfully recalled in Michigan was 1983.

So ...in the majority republican controlled State House, and majority controlled State Senate, the Michigan legislature is now considering bills to eliminate recalls of politicians based on their voting record.

Jerks.

We get to hold them responsible, and they want to change the laws.

Yesterday pretty much proved that all across the country. The stupid republicans clumsily overstepped in their confidence.

I'm sure the Koch households aren't happy places this morning.

28. Great!
I think, however, the replacement is supposed to be selected during the next scheduled election. That would Feb. 28th, when the GOP has their MI Republican primary. So there's a good chance a Republican will replace Scott.
