Blogger murdered and beheaded in Nuevo Laredo
Source: Houston Chronicle

MEXICO CITY - Gangsters killed and apparently beheaded an Internet blogger Wednesday in Nuevo Laredo, the fourth slaying involving people writing on social media sites since early September.

"This happened to me for not understanding that I shouldn't report on the social networks," said a placard left with the man's body at a busy intersection in Nuevo Laredo's wealthier section, according to press reports. Local police investigators would not provide details of the crime over the telephone.

The victim, 35 years old and identified on social networking sites only by the nickname, "Belly Scratcher," reportedly posted news of shootouts and other activities of the Zetas, the narcotics and extortion gang that all but controls the city.

Things seem so bleak, they could benefit from one or two Mexican Frank Castles.

14. Of course from our drug laws
and from our gun manufacturers who value making a buck over any kind of human suffering that their product might cause.

Why the fuck would you use such a rude tone with someone you don't even know? I thought it was pretty obvious that I was trying to make a point about our own societies culpability in the violence going on down there, but I guess that went over your (rather rude) head...

12. China, and the ATF.
For example, Honduran authorities busted a plane on the tarmac loaded with 150 AK-47's bound for the Zetas.

6. Another reason we need to legalize, tax, and regulate drugs
especially marijuana. How many people will have to die before we say ENOUGH to the fucking never ending drug war?!?!?!

8. This is a direct result of the US "War on Drugs."
The only thing I've never been able to figure out is if it was an intended consequence or an accidental side effect. After all, it does generate fear, racism and one hell of a lot of revenue.

and I've wondered the same thing. It's logical to think that lobbying by the pharmaceutical companies, and others, are the main reasons behind what is basically "Prohibition Part 2" aka The Drug War - but you are right - there are so many additional benefits to those in power by keeping it illegal it really does make you wonder. One thing is for sure though - this shit has got to end. I don't know who the brave politician will be who will stand up to The Drug War - but he/she will have my vote. Although I think the real change will come by sheer will of the people, not politicians.

25. No one in power will care unless there are drug shootouts
in their country clubs, exclusive condos and gated neighborhoods...there is a very specific methodology of "confining" the violence to certain places

this must be an intended consequence.

20. The script kiddies are staying away
The cartels have real hackers and when they find you their attack is not a lame DDos. The script kiddies of anonymous have, in wise fashion, backed away from this war.

19. While it is one of the consequences of the drug war
it has reached beyond that point. They are making a power play for the control of a country and region now and is no longer about just drugs. They are in an unofficial civil war at this point which must be acknowledged. Many of these gangs employ former electronic surveillance experts to control the message.

21. The drug war still financially feeds and arms it, "Sixty Minutes" had a program some time back
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 02:47 PM by Uncle Joe
about how the cartels had superior arms compared to the Mexican Police and in this program I learned that Mexico has only one gun shop in the entire nation, that one being in Mexico City.

Virtually all the arms the cartels own came about illegally via the black market and the selling of drugs was a if not the prime source of income to finance those purchases, exporting drugs to the U.S. and importing weapons.

Even our own ATF sent weapons to the cartels ostensibly to track them, which in turn were used to kill innocent people including U.S. law enforcement officers and that's just one small example of how the dysfunctional malignancy of our so called "War on Drugs" policy has metastasized.

I agree with you, the cartels; are making a play for control of the country but our tragically, ridiculous War on Some Drugs policy is a major bulwark in their capability to do so.

Source: Houston Chronicle

MEXICO CITY - Gangsters killed and beheaded an Internet blogger Wednesday in Nuevo Laredo, the fourth slaying in the city involving people associated with social media sites since early September.

"This happened to me for not understanding that I shouldn't report on the social networks," advised a note left before dawn with the man's body at a key intersection in the city's wealthier neighborhood.

The victim, identified on social networking sites only by his nickname - Rascatripas or Belly Scratcher - reportedly helped moderate a site called En Vivo that posted news of shootouts and other activities of the Zetas, the narcotics and extortion gang that all but controls the city.
