Tokyo Police Investigate Olympus Accounting

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation into Olympus Corp.'s attempts to cover up past investment losses, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Police investigators started collecting the company's financial documents on Wednesday, the person said.

A Tokyo Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the agency isn't able to confirm whether an investigation has started.

An Olympus spokesman also said the company also couldn't confirm if an investigation has started.
