Cain regrets Pelosi "Princess Nancy" comment

(Reuters) - Presidential candidate Herman Cain, battling allegations of sexual harassment, said he regretted calling House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi "Princess Nancy" in a Republican debate on Wednesday.

Cain criticized Pelosi for not acting on a piece of healthcare legislation when she was speaker of the House.

"You didn't hear about it in the previous Congress because Princess Nancy sent it to committee and it stayed there," Cain said at the debate in Michigan.

Asked by CNBC after the debate if he regretted the remark in light of the sexual harassment claims by four women, Cain said, "That was a statement that I obviously should not have made, but I was trying to make a point."

Edited to add this from Think Progress: REMINDER: Cain’s ‘Princess Nancy’ Remark Not An Isolated Incident

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, who has spent the last two weeks denying multiple sexual harassment and assault charges, was roundly criticized in last night’s debate for referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as “Princess Nancy.” Cain was contrite afterward, saying, “That was a statement I probably should not have made.” However, on his radio show prior to running for president, Cain regularly referred to Pelosi by the same chauvinistic moniker. Listen to one example of Cain deriding “Princess Nancy” from Aug. 11, 2010 (relevant portion at 2:05):

23. Actually I want him to continue to spew
It will be his undoing eventually and he'll pull the Republican party down even lower.

4. More and more evidence every single day about Cain's misongynism..
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 10:01 AM by MarkCharles
The man is a poster boy for the old school big boy's exploitation of women.

He lucked out in life, with a good speaking voice and he can speak in bullshit as well as the other big (white) boys. However, he often doesn't have a clue, he is poorly informed on many issues, and he treats women as though they are beneath him in status in this nation.

He's a sexist pig, and probably always has been one. I doubt 4 or 5 is the total number of women he made sexual advances upon, or felt up, or actually sexually assaulted during his married life. I'm willing to bet there are five times that number of victims of this guy's pure arrogance out there somewhere. Drip drip drip.

I hope Herman Cain is the Republican Party's choice for President after all the primaries and the convention. It will be so much easier that way to see the Republican Party destroy itself in 2012, with only the teatards voting from that wretched man.

6. I was not aware of that. Who were those people cheering him last night?
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 10:16 AM by MarkCharles
I'm just curious. Don't mean to challenge what I was not aware of.

But SOMEONE was there cheering him when a very savvy woman, (Maria Bartiromo of CNBC) asked him a question about his character. They booed the question, and cheered his total avoidance and denial that he had ever done anything wrong as far as those women accusing him are concerned.

9. I didn't watch the debates, so I don't know
He'll always have his paint chip-munching supporters, but I consider it significant when a major TP figure calls for KochCain to drop out.

12. Well, there's probably clips of that moment soon to be on Youtube, but
I am just not aware of who said Kock-Cain should drop out.

Paint chip-munching supporters, cool phrase or almost the same percentage of Republicans that always supported Bush up until the very end.

Tea Party Nation leader: Cain should drop out
By Cameron Joseph - 11/09/11 05:02 PM ET

A prominent Tea Party leader is calling for Herman Cain to drop out of the presidential race.

Judson Phillips, the head of Tea Party Nation, slammed Cain's response to accusations that he had sexually harassed a number of women during the 1990s.

"Herman Cain has got to go," Judson said in an email to Tea Party Nation members. "I do not believe Cain’s accusers. There are too many questions about them. The allegations are not why Cain should leave. The campaign’s response is why he should now withdraw."

Phillips said he still liked Cain personally but that his campaign's failure to prepare for the story even though they knew about it a week before it broke showed that he was not ready to be president.

28. Today, I went into a deli (first time) and heard the owner operator pontificating about
these accusations against Cain. He was defending Cain and one of the things he said was "who cares about what these women say about him?" I answered, "Women care!" He huffed and then started going on about how these women were just out for money and there was no way thes accusations were true, etc. The waitress came to take my order about that time and I handed here the menu and said "I'm not going to spend my money with him!" And I walked out and got in my car and left.

I've been thinking about it and I might write him a letter telling him not only about the loss of my business, but the fact that I'm going to communicate to my many friends about his behavior and I'm sure they will act the same.

It's not a wise business decision to spout your partisan politics at your place of business, since some customers hold different opinions. Perhaps I would've overlooked that in order to at least eat some lunch, but when he got into the tirade about denigrating the women, and other women who make complaints, and denying their validity or truth based on his "male privilege" viewpoint, that was too much. His disdain for women was incredible.

He's going to pay for this, but I need to be sure he understands why and how much it's going to cost him. I'm very highly respected in this community so I do have some influence.

There are women who have been affected by this kind of behavior (I was) as well as men whose wives, daughters and even mothers have been affected by this kind of behavior. It's time to call it what it is and stop it!

30. I went to a convenience store a few weeks ago to get some milk..
I was looking at the newspaper laid out right in front of the register that had a story about the budget negotiations, I said something to the cashier about it just as friendly conversation and mentioned that the politicians were out of touch with the regular people and they should just pass the budget. The woman cashier about my age, sixtyish, jumped right down my throat and started ranting something about drug testing welfare recipients. I had noted when I came in that there was a sign on the door that said they accept EBT (foodstamp) cards so I asked her if she had so many customers she couldn't handle the business and pointed to the sign, I then told her she had lost one customer for life.

She was shocked speechless when I said that, I just turned on my heel and walked out the door.

It doesn't pay to spout your politics to customers, it's impossible to tell for sure where people stand politically by the way they look and you stand a good chance of pissing someone off.

He regrets that there are people who had the sense to call him out on them. What a disgusting, little man. And, I use the word "man" lightly.

Usually the repigs say "I was just joking!" like that guy in South Carolina. I'm surprised he said he regretted it.

Of course, both excuses are just lies, but still .... :sarcasm:

Or is he just into making bullying comments to those he is trying to dominate?

Does he regret the comments only because he got caught?
