CAMPAIGN 2004: Bush, Kerry targeting Arizona's Latino vote

President Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry are trading blows in hopes of attracting Hispanic voters in Arizona and other key battleground states, each hoping to gain an edge in what is likely to be a tight election.
Bush last week unveiled a national steering committee to head up an aggressive grass-roots effort to capture the Hispanic vote in 16 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, told about 300 supporters in Kansas City he was there to contrast Bush's "impressive record of achievement with the Hispanic community and to contrast his positive agenda with that of John Kerry, which hurts Latinos and is out of touch with their values."
Days before Bush rolled out his "Viva Bush" campaign, Kerry launched a preemptive strike by enlisting numerous Hispanic political leaders to participate in a conference call with reporters aimed at debunking the notion that Bush is a better fit for Hispanics.
