Breaking: Police respond to apparent shooting in City Hall Park, scene of Occupy Burlington

Police say a 35-year-old man in in grave condition after an apparent shooting in City Hall Park, the scene of the Occupy Burlington encampment. Police said it will be several hours before they know more, but did say there is no danger to the public. Police said they have recovered the weapon.

Occupy Burlington encampment has been at the park since Oct. 28.

A motionless man was removed from a green tent where blood was evident. About a half dozen police cars were at the scene at about 2:20 p.m.

Wednesday night protesters rocked to internationally known gypsy punk musicians from Gogol Bordello. Today protesters are consoling each other.

Police have the encampment taped off. Some people are inside the tape, some are at the edges of the park are hugging and crying.

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Police in Vermont's largest city say a 35-year-old man is in grave condition after he was shot at an Occupy Wall Street protest.

Burlington Deputy Chief Andi Higbee says the public is not believed to be at risk after Thursday's shooting at City Hall Park. But he says the circumstances are still being investigated.

18. It is private property.
The inside of the tent, that is. The cops in other jurisdictions ignore the law with impunity, so it seems "strange" that the Burlington cops would follow it.

19. Wouldn't the discharge of a firearm be enough for them to investigate?
Burlington probably has an ordinance against discharge of firearms within the city limits?

20. Just listening to the police talk to the media.
They aren't sure that the discharge happened in a particular tent, so they say they need a warrant. There is an ordinance against having firearms in the park. They are investigating.
