Ohio Senate Democrats propose 2-year ban on reintroducing Senate Bill 5

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Less than two days after voters repealed Senate Bill 5, Ohio Senate Democrats want to pass legislation that would prevent Republicans from reintroducing all or portions of the law.

The Democrats announced today they will propose an amendment to the Ohio constitution that would — for two years after a referendum vote — forbid lawmakers from passing laws that are "identical or substantially similar" to any rejected law, including SB 5.

Senate Democratic leader Capri Cafaro said the legislation is not designed to protect the outcome of Tuesday's election, when voters overwhelmingly repealed the law that would have sharply restricted the collective bargaining power of Ohio's public workers.

"It's not about protecting the outcome," Cafaro said at a press conference at the Statehouse today. "It's about protecting the will of the people."

8. the one thing is some of the republican state reps. &
state senators come from districts where they could f*** a goat on Main Street @ 12:00 noon and still get re-elected.

11. They have nothing to lose now
It's not like they're going to get more of the Union vote in the next election. So no might as well keep trying to appease the crazy.

10. I continue to oppose referendum votes and initiatives. In this case the voters got it right but
in many other cases they have got it wrong. For example, the voters have sanctioned anti gay bigotry in many states. When the voters in California passed Proposition 13 they doomed California to fiscal chaos. We elected legislators to represent us and pass fair laws. Government through initiatives and referenda does not work.

13. Yes. Voters got it right here, but government by referenda leads to tyrrany of the majority.
Tyranny of the majority seems great until you're not part of the majority.
