But, alas, he is resigning because he broke an oath of silence, not because of lying or anything of that nature.

8. Well, for now lies have not admitted, BUT the story has not played
istself out yet. I try to follow the situation in Denmark closely and I will post it if anything juicy comes up. Then again, if it is really juicy it will probably also be on the international wires.

7. Here you go.
Defense Minister Svend Aage Jensby (V)(Btw: He comes from a party called the left party which is kinda ironic), has resigned.

His resignation follows accusations that he as broken the wow of silence in the parliments control comitte.

That's from Danish State Television which like the BBC has been accused by the Government as being biased against them. IMHO is the Reuters story from Yahoo very misleading. I live in Norway and follow the situation in Denmark. Below is the story in Danish which I translated a bit from and a link:

"Forsvarsminister Svend Aage Jensby (V) har sagt sit job op.

Fratrædelsen kommer efter beskyldninger om, at han har brudt tavshedspligten i Folketingets kontroludvalg."

-----

Obviously, a ministerial resignation is a fairly big deal, but generally within a four year period it is not unusual that one or two does it within the Scandinavian parlimentarian systems. We just had one conservative minister resign in Norway after he used government money to buy himself a fancy piano :-)

13. What he's resigning over...
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 05:40 PM by KDLarsen
... is the pressure that has been mounting in the past few days, after the Defence Minister told the press what had happened at a secret meeting in the parliaments control commitee.

Which was pretty dumb, because the government (whom I support on every other issue except Iraq) have tried to discredit a member of the Intelligence Services, who leaked the secret reports that the I.S. had prepared on Iraq. But that story in it self is not fully played out, because there's been flip-flop followed flip-flop.

So, major flip-flopping basically led to his downfall.

In other news, soldiers who've been stationed in Iraq since february have just returned home for a 3 week vacation. I wonder how many US servicemen recieves that kind of treatment ("Oh sorry, you can't board the plane, you need to stay for an extra couple of months. Tough luck, try not to get shot")
