Sandusky courted recruits as late as last year
Source: Associated Press

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky remained as a de facto recruiter for the Nittany Lions as late as last summer.

The father of a South Carolina high school player says Sandusky attended a football camp for players of Polynesian descent in Utah last year and encouraged players to play for coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky made the trip even as a grand jury investigated claims of sexual abuse by the former coach. Sandusky is now charged with molesting eight boys over a 15-year period.

Otto Ah Ching says his son Adam, a linebacker at Greer (S.C.) High, put Penn State on his list of possible schools after speaking to Sandusky. Ah Ching has since crossed Penn State off his list of possible schools, a problem that could grow.

This does not bode well for Penn State. Up until now I've only heard it rumored and not confirmed that Sandusky still acted as a de facto recruiter there.

1. Much, much more to come.
This is just a start. He founded his "charity" in 1977 and didn't become a child molester until the mid-90s? I don't think so.

11. Protective order issued against Sandusky re his grandchildren.
Also Tuesday, an order was issued by Centre County Judge Thomas Kistler on behalf of three of Sandusky's grandchildren. The order states that the children, who live with both their parents in a shared custody arrangement, cannot be in the presence of, or at the home of their grandfather without supervision, said county Prothonotary Deb Immel. There also are to be no overnight visits at Sandusky's home.

the ex-DIL is the one who filed this order, not sandusky's son.

16. All of this is going forward without any lists of kids who were harmed -- !!
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 11:17 PM by defendandprotect
Amazing!!

No one has ever tracked these kids -- going back to '98 when this first became known!

3. Aaaaaaand there's your NCAA violation
Sanctions time, up to and including the "death penalty" (no more football for X years, most recently used on SMU).

6. That's what I was wondering about when I first read the article
If this would be an offense punishable by the NCAA.

4. Not that this is all that important right now
But this will devastate their football recruiting for years to come. What promising young player is going to want to play at that place now? They may even see a lot of players transfer out after the season.

5. Already started. Top Colorado recruit decommits from Penn State
http://www.maxpreps.com/news/uJcV7QyFEeG-rAAmVebEWg/top-colorado-recruit-decommits-from-penn-state.htm

One of Colorado's top football recruits announced that he no longer intends to play for Penn State.

Joey O'Connor, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive lineman who attends Windsor, decided to reconsider his college options because of the recent scandal at the university.

"We're taking it day by day. I decommitted just to relieve all this pressure off my family, my teammates, my coaches and myself," O'Connor told Windsor Now.

O'Connor said he notified the Penn State coaching staff of his decision, and that he will wait until after the high school season to renew his college recruitment. His team is seeded fifth in the Class 3A state playoffs, and will open postseason play on Saturday.

17. Think that certainly is a question ---
Many suggest that there are pedophile networks -- police, politicians,

judges protecting this abuse.

Certainly the idea has been presented in fiction -- but ....

One of the most blatant cases is the Franklin Case -- Reagan administration!!

YIKES!

19. Judge who gave Sandusky bail is Second Mile volunteer
..."The judge who ruled former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky be freed on $100,000 unsecured bail after being charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse against children is a volunteer for The Second Mile, the charity Sandusky founded.

The state Attorney General's Office requested $500,000 bail and an electronic leg monitor for Sandusky, but District Judge Leslie Dutchcot, active in several volunteer roles, ordered Sandusky, a State College resident, to have no contact with children. He will not have to pay any money unless he fails to appear for court."...

"Penn State’s board of trustees last Friday appointed Kenneth Frazier, the chief executive of Merck & Co. as well as Penn State alumni, to lead a special committee to investigate the Sandusky sordid matter. As a Penn State alum myself, it turns my stomach knowing that Mr. Frazier volunteered himself and has serious conflicts of interest in the scandal."

Penn State football recruit changes his mind
Friday, November 11, 2011
By Michael Sanserino, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Joey O'Connor, an offensive tackle from Colorado, has become the first recruit to decommit from Penn State since the school fired coach Joe Paterno.

O'Connor is a four-star recruit and recruiting services ranked him as the top player in Penn State's 2012 class. He is undecided on which school he will attend.

15. Just as most people over a certain age can't see the name "Kent State" w/out thinking of shootings,
I believe the name "Penn State" will bring up the phrase "child rape" for years to come.
