Sandusky "Victim 1" called hero for speaking out
Source: CBS

(CBS News)

The grand jury presentment accusing former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky of being a sexual predator of young boys from a youth charity he helped found is a graphic telling of repeated serial assaults on victimized children.

In the presentment, "Victim 1" first came into contact with Sandusky via The Second Mile, a charity for disadvantaged youth. At about age 12 or 13 the boy first met Sandusky, and claims being sexually abused by him beginning in 2005 or 2006, after being offered gifts such as clothing and NFL game tickets.

But Victim 1 was not the first victim. According to the grand jury, he was merely the first victim to come forward.

The boy showed "courage" that others - including adults in positions of power at the university - did not in dealing with Sandusky, a revered former coach who still had access to campus facilities, Michael Gillum, the victim's psychologist, told USA Today.

1. K&R and so pathetic that it took a victim to stand up for other victims.
All those years and not ONE responsible party took any meaningful action to stop Sandusky.

Without Victim 1's courage, Sandusky would still be free to ruin the lives of who knows how many more innocent children.

3. "repeated serial assaults" - doesn't that belong in the Department of Redundancy Department?

4. Wonder how the fans will view him after getting 'gifts.' The TX judge who beat his disabled kid...
Got some of the heat off of him by claiming it was about him withholding 'gifts' (car) from the kid. And that just dropped off the public radar, didn't it?

Another perp walks away. The assumption being that she was extorting him. Guess the people that rioted over Paterno leaving will find offense in this. Nothing can repay this, nothing.

I imagine Sandusky, who's being treated with kid gloves now, on bail and with Bush family attorneys, will never serve a day in jail or prison for this. Neither will any of the rest of them who covered up.

Just cynical, I guess. I've seen too much of the powerful getting away with a lot more than this. That's why prevention and intervention are key, not making apologies afterwords.

6. I just read on one of
the gossip sites that Sandusky's adopted son tried to commit suicide as a teenager. This story is going to get a lot wore before it gets better I think.

7. Janitor who reported in 2000 ... having seen Sandusky performing oral sex on Victim 8
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 01:38 AM by defendandprotect
in a shower -- an 11-13 year old -- now has dementia and resides in a

nursing home and is believed incapable of testifying.

NO OFFICIAL REPORT WAS MADE AT THE TIME!

Victim 7 -- received phone calls from Sandusky -- from Sandusky's wife and from

a Sandusky friend ... "JUST PRIOR TO HIS GRAND JURY TESTIMONY" -- !!

And Sandusky had a reputation in the community of having "a heart of gold" -- !!

Takes a lot of courage to go up against football coaches, a university and and years

of reports being ignored!
