Bush backs policy restricting images of war dead
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N24442787.htm

NAPLES, Fla., April 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Friday stood by an order that no more photographs be released of flag-draped coffins returning from Iraq, a restriction critics say is aimed at sanitizing the war for the public.

Bush had seen some of the published images, the White House said, adding that the policy of restricting publication was intended to protect the privacy of of the families.

"The president has seen the photos and his reaction is ... it's a reminder of the sacrifice that our men and women are providing in Iraq and around the world ... it's a testament to their service," White House spokesman Trent Duffy told reporters traveling with Bush to Florida.

more...But it is just fine for you to use the bodies of the dead from 9/11 in your campaign ads eh' Chimp Boy?

6. Perhaps some of those families would be willing to put together a big
collaige of their loved ones in happy family photos. With the names and dates of those KIA stamped across the image of their missing loved ones. That might hit home even harder than flag draped caskets. I don't know how many families would be willing to participate in something like that though. A picture of each family in one big collaige.

28. did you see the picture of *'s head
done in pictures of the dead. I don't remember where on the web

The thing is a collage of pictures of the soldiers killed in Iraq.

just after this was posted on the web I was listening to a discussion program on NPR ( don't remember the name of the show) and Toney Blakely (yech!) mentioned this as his "outrage of the week."

Ariana Huffington used her remaining time to respond rather than give her "outtrage of the week". She said that this this was "not a war of necessity, it is a war of choice," *'s choice, and that every death as a result of this was was "squarely on *'s head."

This was followed by dead silence from the panel.

He wasn't very concerned about the privacy of the families when he put a 9/11 coffin in his political ads.

Hypocrite...

3. does the privacy explanation make sense?
it seems to me they've given up on making sense, unless someone can explain to me how pictures of coffins violates anyone's privacy.

12. What Bush said is true...
"The president has seen the photos and his reaction is ... it's a reminder of the sacrifice that our men and women are providing in Iraq and around the world ... it's a testament to their service,"

Just that- it doesn't serve his purpose to have these "reminders", as he calls them, in constant view, reminding us our children are being slaughtered for his almighty oil.

27. caught that, did ya'? i had the same response when reading it
"it's a reminder of the sacrifice that our men and women are providing in Iraq and around the world ... it's a testament to their service"

yet they dont want anyone to see the photos

so, apparently by their own logic, they don't wish the american people to be reminded of the sacrifices and services of our dead soldiers.

so we arrive at the realization long presumed, that george bush dishonors the dead if it can help him get elected.

as karl rove said in 2002 the gop will run on the war.

but not too much war.

25. Bush commercial: real dead body or fake?
I want to add this item to my site but I need to know the real story on the commercial image Bush used with the dead firefighter. I've heard that it was the real deal AND that it was staged.

Does anyone know 100% for certain? Any news articles?

30. Where is the logic in this position?
OK, so I realize that I am totally wasting my time in trying to find any logic betwwen what W says and does. But where is the logic?

According to Trent Duffy,

pictures = testament to the service

this is a good thing, right?

W realizes however, despite his intellectual shallowness, that
the pictures are, in fact, a reminder of the death, destruction, and horrors of war - of this war - and that Americans are dying for a lie

And that their blood is on his hands!

Oh, its ok to use the pictures of the dead that were killed by al Quaeda for his political purposes, but Americans shouldn't see the pictures of these dead. No, these particular dead were killed by George W. Bush!!!
