Annan Distances Himself from Brahimi on Israel

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - United Nations (news - web sites) Secretary-General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) distanced himself on Friday from comments by his special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, who said Israel's "poison in the region" was complicating his search for an Iraqi interim government. snip

Brahimi told France's Inter radio on Thursday that Israeli policies toward Palestinians and Washington support for them hindered his search for an interim Iraqi regime that can assume sovereignty when the U.S. occupation ends on June 30.

"The problems are linked, there is no doubt about it," Brahimi, a former Algerian foreign minister, said. "The big poison in the region is the Israeli policy of domination and the suffering imposed on the Palestinians."

Brahimi said his job was complicated by Iraqi perceptions of "Israel's completely violent and repressive security policy and determination to occupy more and more Palestinian territory."

2. clueless chimpy, or ...
neo-con agenda to SET UP a no-win situation for Brahimi (via our NEWest Israeli policy, including recant of hands-off-Arafat by Sharon) so that we, the USA, will just simply have to go it alone so more, cuz golly-gee we tried to get the UN involved but they just couldn't do this (AGAIN!)

... maybe this is too much :tinfoilhat:

3. Just like Annan to distance himself from simple truth.
And remember Dubya's reliance on Brahimi to pull his chestnuts out of the fire -- as expressed in the infamous press conference? LOL!

point. Iran has just stepped into the ring and some fighting has begun again in Iraq. This is an extremely volatile situation and somebody better be trying to rein this lunacy in or it's going to be very ugly very soon.

Iran Condemns Saudi Attack

TEHRAN (MNA) -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here on Friday condemned the recent suicide bomb attack in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.

The car bomb attack on Wednesday killed four people, including two security officials, and injured at least 148.

The attack happened at 1400 local time (1100 GMT) near the General Security building on al-Washm Street in Riyadh's central Nasiriya district.

Asefi said that the attack was unacceptable, as are all acts of violence that threaten the lives of innocent people.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed his condolences to the victims’ families.
