Congress faces Friday shutdown deadline
Source: CNN

Congress is facing yet another government shutdown threat this week as it confronts the expiration Friday of its latest short-term spending bill.

Legislators are set to consider a new spending bill that would keep the federal government funded through December 16, according to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Virginia.

Congressional leaders may attach provisions to the bill ensuring funding for the Agriculture, Transportation, Justice, and Housing and Urban Development departments -- among other things -- through the end of the current fiscal year in September 2012.

Overall spending levels in the new measure would conform to the outlines of an agreement reached in Congress earlier this year.

1. This is ridiculous. These temporary budgets to allow
government to exist, all in the name of not raising taxes on the wealthy. So "our" answer has been to create a second cat food commission whose objective is to also prevent wealthy tax increases at the expense of the 99%. Social programs have been "okayed" as sacrificial lambs if the commission cannot reach a "deal."

Corrupt government meet OWS, OWS meet corrupt government. This goes to further prove that both parties are controlled by the wealthy and have no allegiance to the majority of citizens. That is one arm of government.

We have a SCOTUS whose "conservative" members ignore conflicts of interest and have dinner parties with foundations whose monetary interests are served by not allowing (even the scraps of health care improvement that we got) legislation that has already been written in to law, to succeed. Surprisingly, that party occurred on the eve of the court agreeing to hear challenges against this meager legislation. That is another arm of our government.

Our executive branch totally ignores the will of the people concerning health care reform. They hold private meetings with big pharma and agree not to bargain for the costs of medicine, even though every other country in the world does. They refuse to allow evidence (of the benefits, financial and physical) to be presented in the "fight for reform." In doing so, they guarantee obscene profits for insurance and pharmaceutical companies. That is our third and last arm of government.

While our media used to be considered the fourth arm of government, because they honestly reported facts to our citizenry, since the removal of the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, they have become a clearinghouse for the press releases given by the real three arms of American government.

So, I guess, we have a temporary government whose existence depends on pleasing the wealthy.

:wtf:
