Police shoot gun-wielding man at UC business school (Berkeley)
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

A man with a gun was shot and wounded by police today at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, officials said.

The man was brandishing a handgun when he was shot by a law-enforcement officer at about 2:15 p.m., said university spokesman Dan Mogulof. He would not say if campus police were involved.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was alive when he was taken to a hospital, he said.

... Mogulof said he could not release more information about the incident, including whether it was related to an Occupy Cal protest on campus.

1. Sounds like suicide by cop.
I'll never understand why people do that. Just do it yourself, and spare everyone else the trouble, including the conscience of the officer who has to shoot you, and who'll have to live with that fact.

2. Agree, but...
...how would they go down in infamy or make a "statement" if they just popped some pills?

3. Yeah, I suspect it really comes down to that. Or possibly to not having the nerve.

I.e. they're too scared to actually pull the trigger, swallow the pills, whatever, so they put themselves in a position where they won't be able to stop. Either way though, it just boils down to a last act of massive self-centeredness, fucking over everyone around them at the time for their own convenience.

4. Not really suicide if drugs are invovled
I have no idea, but I can only imagine methamphetamines pushing someone to behave in this manner. But I'm sure the police will find a way to link it to OWS.
