Poll: 58 percent support recall of Gov. Scott Walker

Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker is losing the support of Wisconsin adults, a Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert College survey suggests. The poll, released on Tuesday, reveals 58 percent of respondents want Walker recalled from office.

Surprisingly, the poll showed that support for the recall is growing among Republican voters in Wisconsin, as the Chicago Tribune reports that only 7 percent of Wisconsin Republicans favored recalling Walker in the spring; a number that has increased to 24 percent in November. The results show that opposition to Walker’s decision to enact controversial legislation that devalued collective bargaining rights and benefits for public workers is growing among Wisconsinites on both sides of the political spectrum.


Democrats in Wisconsin began distributing petitions for the recall on Tuesday, in an effort to collect the 540,000 signatures needed by January 17th to officially recall Walker. In response to the recall effort, Walker ran an advertisement defending his good standing as the state governor during the Monday night football game between the Minnesota Vikings and Wisconsin’s beloved Green Bay Packers.

In reaction to the poll results, Wisconsin state Republican party spokeswoman Nicole Larson released the following statement, which was obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: ”New polls are released every day about public opinion, but if you want to know the genuine feelings of Wisconsin voters, just ask parents whose children’s schools have been able to save money thanks to the governor’s reforms, or home owners who won’t see a rise in their property taxes next month, or any taxpayer who appreciates Gov. Walker’s stance on reducing taxes. Gov. Walker is leading Wisconsin forward and the voters of this state will continue to support his responsible leadership.”

The way this is worded, it sounds like all they have to do is get the signatures and he's recalled. I thought the signatures would mean there would be a vote.
