Suspect in White House Shooting Captured in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement captured a man suspected in a shooting incident near the White House.

Police took 21-year-old Oscar Ortega into custody at a hotel near Indiana, Pa. Using information provided by the Secret Service, Pennsylvania State Police made the arrest at 12:35 p.m.

Secret Service confirmed on Tuesday morning that 2 bullets were found on the White House grounds, one of them lodged in ballistic glass behind a historic window.

On Friday night, an arrest warrant was issued for Ortega in the shooting.

I saw in the article that his family in Idaho had reported him missing weeks ago, so it sounds - strange.

I realize that people who are not sick in the head shoot at presidents, but this story sounds different.

Every time I've been by the White House with a Democrat in office, there has always been one or two crazies, usually with a bullhorn. Perhaps there's some type of contest with streetcorner preachers and whoever is the nuttiest gets a free bus pass to DC. For the most part they are strangely absent when a Republican is in office. I guess they figure the GOP is nutty enough already without their help.

WASHINGTON — Federal law enforcement authorities on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old Idaho man suspected of shooting with a semiautomatic rifle at the White House on Friday night, as the Secret Service reported finding that at least one bullet had indeed struck the presidential residence.


The Secret Service said that the suspect, Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, was arrested at a hotel near Indiana, Pa., at approximately 12:35 p.m. by the Pennsylvania State Police, acting on information from Secret Service agents in Pittsburgh.

“Ortega-Hernandez is currently in the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police,” the statement said.

The man, previously referred to in a warrant as Oscar Ramiro Ortega, has a background of legal problems and is said to have a history of aberrant behavior. During an encounter earlier in the day on Friday with the police in nearby Arlington County, Va., he said he was from Idaho Falls. The police there said he had been reported missing last month by his family. / snip
