Ex-DA: PSU case referred due to wife's family tie
Source: Boston Globe

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—A former Pennsylvania county prosecutor said Wednesday that he referred an allegation that former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky had sexually abused a child to state prosecutors because his wife's brother was Sandusky's adopted son.

Former Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira told The Associated Press that he cited the possible conflict of interest in passing the 2009 report to the state attorney general's office, which at the time was headed by now-Gov. Tom Corbett.

.....

In an interview Tuesday with the AP, Madeira declined to specify his family tie to Sandusky, but he revealed the connection Wednesday. He said he hasn't spoken to his brother-in-law in years and rarely spoke to Sandusky.

.....

Madeira's wife, Lisa, also was adopted, but by a different family. Including Madeira's brother-in-law, Sandusky has six adopted children.

These are some very important threads to pull on.

Now we learn that Sandusky has six adopted children, one of which is the brother-in-law of the former Centre County, PA prosecutor who passed a 2009 sexual abuse report involving Sandusky up the chain to the office of state Attorney General Tom Corbett.

Or, to put it another way, years ago, a brother and sister were adopted by different families: the little sister is now the wife of this former PA county prosecutor. The little brother was adopted by Jerry Sandusky.

It would be prudent to speak with this little boy, now a young man, who grew up in the home of Jerry Sandusky.

Also referenced in this article is the 1998 investigation into an abuse incident involving Sandusky and an 11-year old boy, in which then-District Attorney Ray Gricar declined to file charges.

Gricar disappeared mysteriously in April 2005; he was declared legally dead this year.

Is Paterno going to walk away with his very generous pension?

And will Penn State steal immunity for the university to avoid accountability?

1. Just wild speculation, but if someone was running illegal gambling
and wanted to ensure that Sandusky's career wasn't derailed, would that be motive to remove a DA?

3. Jesus, what a tangled web--is everyone in PA interconnected? I thought it was a fairly large and
diverse state?

Paterno gets a huge pension--he already has enough time in to get it.

10. Doubt it will stand up in court.
Thing is, it's been known for a while that this would hit the fan.

Speculation is that said fan hitting was delayed so Paterno could break some athletic coaching record, which he did.
