Racial Hate Crimes Surge 39% in Phoenix
Source: The Arizona Republic

by JJ Hensley - Nov. 17, 2011 12:00 AM

The number of racially motivated hate crimes in Phoenix rose nearly 40 percent from 2009 to 2010, mirroring other upswings around the country.

Hate crimes in Phoenix classified by race rose from 36 to 50, an increase that experts who track Valley incidents attribute to heightened tensions following Senate Bill 1070, though hate crimes against Hispanics dipped.

Criminologists say the overall increase in hate crimes can be attributed to outreach efforts that encourage members of minority communities to report such crimes and an increasing awareness among police officers to recognize hate crimes.

The FBI, which released the data earlier this week, classifies hate crimes in five categories that cover race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity and disability. 5. AZ is not "the state of hate"
It's not nearly as red as other red states are. It's just that, as always, the RW Christians/Mormons are so loud and violent, that they're more visible than the normal people.
