Fresh round of hacked climate science emails leaked online
Source: The Guardian

A fresh tranche of private emails exchanged between leading climate scientists throughout the last decade was released online on Tuesday. The unauthorised publication is an apparent attempt to repeat the impact of a similar release of emails on the eve of the Copenhagen climate summit in late 2009.

The initial email dump was apparently timed to disrupt the Copenhagen climate talks. It prompted three official inquiries in the UK and two in the US into the working practices of climate scientists. Although these were critical of the scientists' handling of Freedom of Information Act requests and lack of openness they did not find fault with the climate change science they had produced.

Norfolk police have said the new set of emails is "of interest" to their investigation to find the perpetrator of the initial email release who has not yet been identified.

The emails appear to be genuine, but the University of East Anglia said the "sheer volume of material" meant it was not yet able to confirm that they were. One of the emailers, the climate scientist Prof Michael Mann, has confirmed that he believes they are his messages. The lack of any emails post-dating the 2009 release suggests that they were obtained at the same time, but held back. Their release now suggests they are intended to cause maximum impact before the upcoming climate summit in Durban which starts on Monday.

1. It's easy to find these emails I guess
I believe however we're still waiting for millions to come from the shrubbo "presidency"?

2. Worked well in 2009, but a reprise may not
As noted in the article, these emails were obtained as part of part of the successful (Koch-financed?) campaign by big oil to discredit climate science on the eve of the Copenhagen conference. It certainly helped undermine Obama's one and only effort to show any international leadership on climate change.

It isn't clear these emails will have the same charm second time around. It will give the deniers new and refreshed talking points, though, but beyond that, one can at least hope that media will not again fall for this scam.

This will just add to their "proof."

6. limbaugh basically launched the first "emailgate", maybe he can work the magic again since there
is still no organized opposition challenging the deniers best weapon.

he gave almost a full week of his extremely high priced time and the MSM resisted for days giving it time (except fox). but there were so many enraged dittohead teabaggers out there they had to eventually let on some of the deniers to 'debate' these emails that 'proved' climate change was a hoax. that was also the cover GOP reps and media ops used. it worked to undercut obama.

i wrote about it here http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/25/807814/-Americ...

i didn't hear limbaugh for this one but he might give it similar attention.

all this coming from 1000 radio stations, many of which depend on their associations with university sports for community standing and ad money. shame on those unis.

7. Maybe he sees no need for a repeat effort?
The oil industry and the Kochs know that they have already defeated the environmental movement on climate change, at least for now, so I'm not sure why they would mount another major campaign.

Obama has been defeated, and there is zero risk now of anything being done at the Durban conference.

So why spend big time and big money getting Rush to fight a battle they've already won?

10. i haven't listened today and since i'm traveling tomorrow it's likely i won't be able to avoid him
he spent more time on that than anything i ever heard from him so if it only gets a few mentions your theory may be correct- i'm sure he'll give a little time- he really likes denial.
