Democrats lobby against any broader exceptions to contraceptive coverage
Source: Wash. post

Democratic lawmakers, fearful that President Obama is on the verge of significantly diluting a proposed regulation that would give millions of women access to birth control without out-of-pocket insurance charges, are furiously lobbying the White House to hold the line.

At issue is whether the provision, announced in August, should exempt a far broader range of religious organizations than originally proposed.

In a phone call with senior White House adviser David Plouffe on Tuesday afternoon, eight senators argued that the consequences of expanding the exemption would be devastating, according to people familiar with the call.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) also raised the issue with Obama while she was with him in New Hampshire on Tuesday, her communications director said. These discussions followed conference calls late last week between other top White House officials and members of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus.

1. Hmmm. Democrats standing up on their hind legs.
Interesting. What kind of crazy ass-backwards country is this, that we have to fight for birth control all over again?

3. This has been coming since the rise of the religious right in the Reagan era. We've ignored their...
Culture to our peril. They're not kidding about the way they want the world to be run, and have changed the social landscape in many places that will probably never recover.

2. these democrats know if he sides with the pedophiles on this one, women won't vote for him
not that there would be another candidate to vote for - but why vote for this one when he's shown himself to be a misogynist of the first order.

that he even gives these regressive assholes the time of day is infuriating. he validates them by allowing them to meet with him. he encourages them by hearing them out.

Democrats know that Obama will hurt their own campaigns because such an action would result in the disenfranchisement of women who will not vote for a candidate who sided with religious extremists whose entire history has revolved around treating women as second-class citizens.

We see that the earlier report about Obama taking these meetings isn't just rumor if the Democrats are responding to it.

I won't vote for anyone who helps to decrease women's right to body sovereignty as a way to gain favor with religious pederasts.

6. I won't vote for him if he does this.
I'm not sure I'll vote for him as it is now, but this move? Not a chance.

All the expletives I used to use against Bush are going through my head right now. :grr:
