Joint Chiefs Chairman: War Going Well
LAWRENCE, Kan. - The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Friday that the war in Iraq is going "reasonably well" but acknowledged the United States faces long-term involvement there.

Gen. Richard Myers told reporters that fighting terrorism also is a long-term commitment and said, "Decades is probably not unreasonable."

Myers also said loosening a ban on top members of Saddam Hussein's former Baath party is important "so they feel a part of the new Iraq." He also defended the Pentagon's policy against releasing photos of flag-draped coffins of soldiers.

"There's some really tough challenges in Iraq, but it's actually going reasonably well," he said.

20. Terrorism is to replace Communism for their stupid war and military
justification. They miss having the "C" word to instill fear and patriotism in the public. I'm reminded so many times of back when I was a kid and people were digging shelter's in their back yards, stocking them with supplies, the air raid siren tests, the stupid signs around town for designated air raid shelters, etc.

This is only the beginning of another war against another "ideology" used to mask the real intent of empire and world domination. It's getting old, then again, so am I.

33. You do know when they have to get them FOUR stars up there
to tell about the success it would be easy to make that there is something fishy going on.

When truth becomes self evident and goes without saying, then people are left to their own means to do what they must

6. How can the war in Iraq be going "reasonably well"
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 10:52 PM by Minstrel Boy
when it's still going on? It's been over a year now. Is it simply that they've been getting better at it, with so much practice?

9. The embassy they are building will need lots of defending
According to this "limited" sovereignty deal, there will be a US minder for every position in the new Iraqi government. That will be thousands of US citizens who will need the army defending them against those uppity Iraqis.

13. Joint Chiefs Chairman: "we are winning the war in Vietnam."
I am convinced of four things: (1) we are winning the war in Vietnam; (2) I cannot predict when the war will end; (3) although the tide of battle is running against Hanoi, they are not yet convinced that they cannot win; and (4) flowing from item (3), Hanoi is not yet ready to negotiate an end to the war.

Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (1964–70)

16. Going Well For Who?
The generals aren't dying, the visiting politicos aren't dying, so it's going well?

There wasn't any terrorism in Iraq until we opened the doors for it.

Now there will never be an end to it. Good job, fellas.

If he was talking about the insurgents or another situation.

25. Why do I get the feeling that Myers is like one of those hostages
taken prisoner by an overwhelming power, a captor whom he hates but who's been brainwashed or intimidating into repeated whatever statement is put in front of him and told verbatim to read. Somehow, when he says "decades is probably not unreasonable", it almost seems like he's trying to send us some encoded, indirect message "Please, help me get out of this madness. What we are doing is only making it worse."

Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 02:45 PM by Barkley
In fact things are doing so well that we no longer need Spain,
Honduras, Dom. Republic or the U.N.

Things are so good that we don't even need the Iraqis!

I guess that's why we're killing so many of them.
