Security boosted at embassies in Bangkok
BANGKOK - Heavily armed police have been posted at embassies in the Thai capital following reports of letters threatening terrorist attacks, the Bangkok Post reported yesterday.

Security was beefed up at the Pakistani and South Korean embassies on Wednesday night, the newspaper quoted Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner Thani Somboonsap as saying.

The embassies had received the threatening letters on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, he added.

A group calling itself the Yellow-Red Overseas Organisation has threatened to attack them, saying that Pakistan and South Korea were backing the United States in the Iraq war.

It also threatened to attack airlines and other major facilities in Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia and Kuwait between April 20 and 30.

In the Philippines, armed forces spokesman Daniel Lucero said the military leadership had ordered intelligence agents to verify the authenticity of the group and its warning.

However, he said that the military and defence establishments have yet to receive a copy of the letter.

Let me ask the rational non-insane people something. 'Do you think a bank robber would send the bank a warning note before she robbed it?'
