BASRA (Reuters) - At least one boat attacked Iraq's main oil terminal offshore in the Gulf on Saturday, a British military spokesman said.

Asked about an unconfirmed report that two boats exploded at the Basra terminal in suicide attacks, Major Ian Clooey told Reuters: "We are just getting reports that there has been an incident at the Basra offshore terminal. There are no firm details yet but we know of at least one vessel involved."

LONDON (Reuters) - An explosion occurred at an oil rig off the coast of the Iran/Iraq border, a spokeswoman for the British Defense Ministry in London said on Saturday.
"There has been an explosion at the oil rig that is now known as the al Bakra rig but used to be known as the al Basra," the spokeswoman said. "It is seven miles offshore on the Iran/Iraq border."

She said she had no further details.

BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) - A boat exploded alongside a ship tied up at Basra's offshore oil terminal on Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of damage, a British military spokesman said.
Major Ian Clooey told Reuters a second boat was intercepted by a U.S.-led coalition vessel as it approached the exclusion zone around Iraq's main oil terminal and there was an explosion soon after it was boarded.

Clooey said he had not received reports of casualties in the second explosion.

Going for the pipeline involves less risk, and sabotage can be done at night with a timing device.

LONDON (Reuters) - An explosion at the Basra offshore oil terminal on Saturday did no damage either to the platform or a boat moored alongside, Britain's Ministry of Defense said.

"A boat exploded next to it. But there was no damage to the oil terminal or the boat alongside it," a spokeswoman told Reuters in London. "As far as I know there were no British casualties."

Officials have said a second suicide bomb boat was intercepted and exploded later.

The oil will be piped for loading at Turkey's Mediterranean terminal of Ceyhan.

The pipeline became operational last month after being largely out of use since last August, following the invasion of US-led forces and the ousting of dictator Saddam Hussein.

Saddam loyalists and other insurgents were blamed for a series of attacks on the pipeline which disrupted flow.
