Bremer warns of 'explosive' Najaf

A highly dangerous situation has been developing in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, the top US administrator warns.
Paul Bremer's spokesman said militants were stockpiling weapons and ammunition in mosques, shrines and schools.

Several children are reported to have died in crossfire after an attack on a US military convoy in Baghdad, which also killed an American soldier.

In the northern city of Mosul, four Iraqis died when rockets were fired at a hospital and a hotel on Sunday.

A police station was also hit, and at least 15 people were injured.

1. Bremer must be in hell right about now
Sweating, being yelled at from all sides.

He's been in Iraq long enough to know that Fallujah/Najaf would be huge fucking mistakes.

Something tells me he got a snippy videoconference call from Dick n' Dork.

BREMER: "Greetings, Mr. President. Greetings, Mr. Other President."

DICK: "Can the balloon juice, Jerry. We got problems."

DORK: "Big problems, Jerry! We got an election comin' up."

DICK: "We're gonna hafta get tough. Stick to principle. Mow 'em down."

DORK: "Kill 'em by the hundreds... for a free, more secure Iraq, of course."

DICK: "Of course, Mr. President."

DORK: "Yessir, Mr. Other President."

BREMER: "Uh, guys - I really wouldn't want to do that if I were you, uh even our handpicked puppets are complaining and its really a tense situation uh..."

DICK: "You have 48 hours, Mr. Diplomacy. Go give them an ultimatum."

DORK: "And make your hair extra-shiny. They like that."

DICK: "So uh.. you go on and do that... and if you fail..."

DORK: "Which you will."

DICK: "We'll kill everybody."

DORK: "Wheeeeeee!"

BREMER: "Gulp."

(begins freshening up resume, ponders giving Kissinger a ring.)

6. The Viceroy looks ill.
Like he's got a bleeding ulcer, constipation, and insomnia. It shows on his face. I don't think he'll survive beyond July 1 if he had to stay.

Not that I feel sorry for him.

3. God, these people are dumber than Wile E. Coyote (or however it's
spelled). Bremer's mother must have dropped him on his head a few days after birth. And as for bush*, it think he's Rosemary's Baby.

4. was it the "crossfire" that killed these schoolchildren
or was it deliberate aiming at them because they appeared to be joyful over the explosion of a humvee?

We have nothing but liars telling us the news of the events.

there is NOT a one who can be believed.

we are in a war that is a manufactures PR war by the firms that Bush hired to do that. We will NEVER know what is really going on

I believe that.

But I am inclined to think that the coward AWOL Bush is hiding or making up everything because he is a stupid and insane man.

5. This the setup for the Israeli style "incursion"
You know damn well there is going to be huge bloodshed on the Iraqi side this week when our Marines go in there and begin the "cleanup" operation.

All this latest talk (weapons in mosques, etc.) is the setup to prepare Americans for us going in and to provide some justification for it.

They'll inflict major damage in these two cities and hope it quells the insurgents. However, more likely, is that it will blow the lid off the situation and a cause of full scale revolt with major casualties on both sides.

9. YOu said it..
they are getting us ready for when they destroy the vestiges of CIVILIZATION there, schools, mosques, etc..

these are all symbols and must be sullied in advance so that we don't appear to be the savages we would be accused of being in a sane world..

Bush is nothing less than a Beast.

I don't even see a human look in his eyes anymore, he's "gone over" into the dark side..

Cheney however, has a split level mansion there (in the dark side)..

this will not end well.. they best not believe in Karma..

our troops are commiting war crimes and there's no turning back..

here's my latest flash movie "MURDER BY NUMBERS"

10. Kimmitt using the P word.
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 07:49 PM by cambie
"Our patience is not eternal," Kimmitt said at a news conference in Baghdad. This rings a discordant bell.

http://www.rense.com/general33/20.htm

These people use the P word long after they have decided what will happen. Their patience has been close to that of angels it seems, but now a massacre will be the fault of those under siege.

12. reminds me of Hitler's last recorded words
Surely not his last, but the last related ones: "In the end, what you regret is that you were too kind." So I guess it's no more Mr. Nice Guy for us either, and I guess we'll "show them", after all, we were incredibly patient for so long...

I saw Kimmett a few weeks ago in a live presser at some early hour (here on the West Coast) say in response to a question about possible impending Civil War: "we're not concerned about Civil War".

It's like watching people play Russian Roulette.

13. Good point
"...patience is not eternal", generally precedes lashing out by only a brief interval.

14. LAT: Insurgents Fortify Positions in Najaf
Insurgents Fortify Positions in Najaf
U.S. troops await orders to enter the holy city, where a militant cleric's followers are stockpiling arms at religious sites and detaining rivals.

By Edmund Sanders, Times Staff Writer

NAJAF, Iraq — As U.S. troops await orders to enter this Islamic holy city, militant Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr and his militia are strengthening their control here, stockpiling weapons, seizing key religious sites and arresting or detaining those who challenge him.

In the last two weeks, Sadr's followers — many rushing here from Baghdad, Fallouja and other areas of Iraq — have fortified their positions in the city and the neighboring town of Kufa, including at Najaf's gold-domed shrine of Imam Ali, one of the most revered mosques in the world.

Sadr's forces have evicted more than 100 rival Shiite clerics and shrine employees, replacing them with their own armed militiamen, who roam the rooftops and courtyards of the shrine with rifles and rocket-propelled-grenade launchers hung over their shoulders.

The cleric's followers also were stockpiling weapons in mosques, schools, graveyards and private houses around the city, according to U.S. intelligence reports and local residents.

The open challenge to the U.S.-led administration in a city seen as sacred to Shiite Muslims, who make up 60% of Iraq's population, has put coalition authorities in a quandary. Two weeks ago, U.S. military officials amassed 2,500 troops on the outskirts of Najaf and declared their intention to restore order to the city and kill or capture Sadr. Last week, they softened their stance, saying they wanted to allow more time to reach a peaceful settlement in Najaf....

15. How long before they just do it?
We all know the occupiers are just itching to open up with the heaviest artillery no matter if there are civilians or not.
The cities under siege are populated heavily, but when they allowed evacuation they only allowed the women and babies to leave--all combat age men and boys were sent back as their families left.
So, they are trying to eliminate Iraqi men--isn't this genocide?
All nations should speak up and insist they obey International law.
It is just a matter of time before the idiots in charge just massacre these Iraqis and destroy their holiest shrines...
Then we'll see why that is so idiotic. There are not enough soldiers to police an entire country. They will just swarm like angry bees--with kitchen knives if they have to and all other Muslims in other countries will join in...
Our dear dumb ass idiot boy in the white house is so clueless so he'll tell'm to do it no matter what the advisors say !
