British Militants Openly Support Bin Laden and the Rule of Islam

LUTON, England, April 24 — The call to jihad is rising in the streets of Europe, and is being answered, counterterrorism officials say.

In this former industrial town north of London, a small group of young Britons whose parents emigrated from Pakistan after World War II, have turned against their families' new home. They say they would like to see Prime Minister Tony Blair dead or deposed and an Islamic flag hanging outside No. 10 Downing Street.

They swear allegiance to Osama bin Laden and his goal of toppling Western democracies to establish an Islamic superstate under Shariah law, like Afghanistan under the Taliban. They call the Sept. 11 hijackers the "Magnificent 19" and regard the Madrid train bombings as a clever way to drive a wedge into Europe.

On Thursday evening, at a tennis center community hall in Slough, west of London, their leader, Sheik Omar Bakri Mohammad, spoke of his adherence to Osama bin Laden. If Europe fails to heed Mr. bin Laden's offer of a truce — provided that all foreign troops be withdrawn from Iraq in three months — Muslims will no longer be restrained from attacking the Western countries that play host to them, the sheik said.

"All Muslims of the West will be obliged," he said, to "become his sword" in a new battle. Europeans take heed, he added, saying, "It is foolish to fight people who want death — that is what they are looking for."

Perhaps this is the human response to a "born again" US leader who proclaims "bring it on". Ugh!!!

Oh, well. If some kind of culmination is what humanity wants,...I guess humanity will get it.

As for me, I just want to hang onto what little of democracy is left here,...and continue the endeavor towards equality and justice which are both necessary to actually know "freedom" (that word which is recklessly thrown about to manipulate all those who have none).

1] why isn't there a dramatic outcry from the Muslim community's leaders insisting that these teachings go against Muslim principles, and the specific promises of "paradise" for violent martyrdom?

11. I don't know what to make of people like this.

If they really had mischief in mind, why would they be so stupid as to draw so much attention to themselves. They give up their freedom forever, basically becoming prisoners. Their every move would be followed, their every phone call and email monitored. Everyone who listens to them or meets with them would be fingered by intelligence. They'd be picked up for even buying a gallon of gasoline. I guess they'd basically put every muslim in their city under the same cloud. Is he really dangerous or just a big talker trying to get a bigger audience for his lunatic ravings. and why would British intel continue to let him openly threaten Britain like this? I don't get it.

15. These people are a joke

and an extremely good excuse for the media to play on people's fears of the 'other', in this case Islam. They represent a tiny section of the Muslim community, and have been denounced by practically every mainstream Muslim organization. Of course it suits counterterrorism officials to play this up - its easier to push anti-immigrant legislation through if the public are scared of immigrants.
