Kerry Slams Ban on Photos of Coffins from Iraq
DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) on Sunday accused President Bush (news - web sites) of trying to hide the consequences of the Iraq (news - web sites) war by restricting photographs of flag-draped coffins returning home from the conflict.

Under a policy that Bush endorses, the Pentagon (news - web sites) tightly restricts publication or broadcast of photographs of coffins with the remains of U.S. troops.

And it forbids journalists from taking pictures at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the first stop for the bodies of troops being sent home.

"I believe that keeping faith with those who serve also requires us to understand the sacrifice they're making and to honor it when they come home to the fullest measure," Kerry told a rally here.

1. Good move Kerry!!
Well, we were talking about Kerry needing to put Bush on the defensive. This could be progress towards that. This is a good move on Kerry's part. Make a statement and let Bush try to put that in his pipe and smoke it.

4. Not just ground zero, but the flag-draped remains of a fire fighter!
The hypocrisy is much more direct than politicizing a tragedy.

5. Exactly why Bush is such a hypocrite
Why someone in the DLC cannot expose this truth is beyond reason.

10. I like the way he's picking his battles carefully.

but it's too bad that neither he nor the article points out that Bush approved a campaign commercial that contained a scene of a flag-draped stretcher.

11. Someone please explain this to me

If the situation were reversed, you know the republicans would be all over it.

And this is only one example in a line of many.

When all I have to do is get on the internet and find this pointed out, why can't Kerry's staff come up with these ideas? I'm sure he and other democrats have very intelligent people working for them. So why don't they use the ammo that is right in front of them. It is so weird, this timidity. I am calling it that because I don't want to beleive they aren't smart enough to connect the dots between the firefighters coffin and these pictures. It's so lame.
