Al-Zarqawi Claims Iraq Oil Terminal Attack

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A Jordanian militant with links to al-Qaida claimed responsibility on Monday for suicide boat attacks against Persian Gulf oil terminals that killed three Americans and disabled Iraq (news - web sites)'s biggest terminal for more than 24 hours.

The claim by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi came on an Islamist Web site that often carries statements said to be from al-Qaida and other militant groups.

"Our brothers in their sea craft targeted the oil platforms," the statement said in Arabic.

The bombings, using boats packed with explosives, resembled the 2000 attack on the USS Cole (news - web sites) off Yemen that killed 17 sailors, as well as a 2002 attack against a French tanker off Yemen that killed one crewmember.

8. This hardly constitutes proof of anything

As if posting a claim on a website was proof of anything, besides having a rudimentary familiarity with keyboard layout. Although if it was "Al-Qaida", Bushco should be happy. I thought attracting terrorists to the "Iraq battlefield" was one of the many post-hoc justifications for this fiasco. I guess they weren't supposed to go after oil, though. That makes BFEE sad.
