Don't hide our war dead, says Kerry
Democrat presidential challenger John Kerry has criticised the sacking of two cargo workers who photographed flag-draped coffins of American soldiers, saying such images should not be hidden from the public.

"I believe that keeping faith with those who served also requires us to understand the sacrifice they're making and to honour it when they come home to the fullest measure," the Massachusetts senator said during a rally for his presidential campaign.

Defence contractor Maytag Aircraft Corp fired a married couple after their photo of coffins inside a cargo plane appeared on the front page of The Seattle Times.

The photo showed workers at Kuwait International Airport securing 20 flag-draped coffins for the trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The Pentagon also announced last week that, to respect family privacy, it would no longer release photographs of war dead arriving at the military mortuary in Dover.

5. Yes! Time to mail/call/fax the ol' campaign
I still wish he would point out the hypocrisy between Bush's showing of the flag-draped remains in a campaign ad, yet refusing to allow photos of the coffins of dead soldiers.

7. Can anyone answer this simple question?
How does showing a group of coffins draped with American flags violate the privacy of family members of the deceased?
IIRC, the familes of Viet Nam war dead wanted the images shown, to keep the public's awareness of their sacrifice, and I sincerely doubt that feeling has changed since then (except for the few nutcases *'s PR creeps drum up).

I don't hear that question asked in the media. Has anyone else?
