Cheney's Parade of Misleads and Half-Truths Stops in Missouri, Says Kerry Campaign

Mon Apr 26, 4:48 PM ET

To: National Desk, Political Reporter
Contact: Chad Clanton or Phil Singer, 202-712-3000, both of John Kerry (news - web sites) for President

WASHINGTON, April 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In an effort to deflect attention from the worst week of its administration (the end of the worst month of fatalities in Iraq (news - web sites), the Supreme Court hearing of the Cheney Energy Task Force case, the Bush-Cheney joint 9/11 testimony, and the 1st anniversary of the Mission Accomplished event that Karl Rove said was a mistake), Dick Cheney (news - web sites) stopped off in Missouri today to attack John Kerry.

Kerry spokesperson Phil Singer said: "Dick Cheney took audacity to a new level today by going after John Kerry for positions that Dick Cheney himself has taken. At the height of the Cold War, Dick Cheney criticized President Reagan for not cutting defense spending. When he was Secretary of Defense and led the Pentagon (news - web sites), Dick Cheney tried to kill or gut many of the same programs he's attacking John Kerry on. Dick Cheney didn't serve in the military but he attacks John Kerry's commitment to defense. The Vice-President's shameful remarks about a decorated war hero like John who risked his life trying to save the lives of others make it clear that the Bush campaign has no problem stomping on the truth."

as a webpage (in MSIE) but it wouldn't save, either -- I selected, copied and pasted for future reference.

14. I just went to the article, and it was rated 0. Not it's rated a 5 with my
input. How can that be? It's 11:52 pm Monday night. Do the ratings disappear after a certain amount of time or something?

6. Kerry should not respond to Cheney-only to
bush. Cheney is "beneath" Kerry - someone should be speakin for Kerry against Cheney.

9. No, responding to Cheney is manditory as he is an attack dog
and most of the population must have fugured out bush* is pResident in name only. It is especially good to come out swinging against Cheney considering that Chicken Hawk Dick and the shrub have to hold handies at the 9-11 Commission hearings on Thursday.

Tis a good week to drive home the fact that a vote for bush* is really a vote for Cheney. bush* is just the poster boy for the gang that couldn't get elected themselves.

18. i agree totally. the moment Kerry gets a veep selected, it's time to stop
even mentioning cheney. REMEMBER THE TACTIC THAT BUSH USED ALL THESE YEARS... he has never ever mentioned Gore's name once. NOT ONCE.

16. Show me where I ever said I threw all of my medals away.
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 12:53 AM by PurityOfEssence
That's the kind of thing that needs to be said. (Missouri IS the "show me" state, after all...)

Then turn Cheney's despicable voting record on him; there was a long record of votes when Cheney was a Rep that's just ugly, and will show him as the misanthropic, cheapskate thug he is. Let's take this straight to the gutter, and most importantly: have it done by surrogates.

It's just shocking how the Dems can't shoot down well-anticipated attacks; the wingers constantly run circles around us. Why on earth is Eleanor Holmes Norton EVER allowed on Crossfire? She was awful, she's been awful every time, and she's constantly allowed out to screw things up. More than anything else, the accusations must be shot down immediately. Don't shilly-shally and equivocate; hit them hard and demand retractions right there on the spot. Always answer the accusation instantly and turn them on the attacker as an example of his/her immorality.

Kerry doesn't own an SUV; his wife and/or her grown children from a previous marriage do. It's not enough to just refute this, it needs to be beaten into the ground that these people will distort anything for gain, regardless of its accuracy; long after it's died down, this should be flogged for more mileage.

Kerry didn't vote for the war; he voted to give the President that authority ONCE ALL OTHER OPTIONS HAD BEEN EXHAUSTED. Junior never asked for Congress' permission any more than he sincerely tried the options. Bush lied about his intent to avoid war; he wanted to teach Hussein and everyone else a lesson.

There was no Iraq-Al Queda connection, and Bush knew it; that's why the Joint Congressional report was kept on ice when it was ready in December of '02.

Kerry didn't strand the soldiers by voting against the $87B, he didn't like the graft and unaccountability of that greedfest; he voted against Bush's larceny. Junior's way is not the only way of doing things.

Bush was the one who shorted the boys on body armor, and he was also the one who reduced soldiers' pay.

Kerry never said he'd raise taxes by $900B in the first 100 days; this is sheer fabrication. Hell, there are truth in advertising standards that apply to commercials; if this was a product, the spot would have to be pulled.

Kerry has voted to raise taxes ON HIMSELF and other rich people, because he's a decent man who realizes he's been fortunate; Bush devised ways to LOWER HIS OWN TAXES, and has PERSONALLY pocketed close to $100,000.00 due to all of his tax cuts, while cutting aid programs to the needy and claiming we can't afford environmental standards.

Kerry risked his life for his country, VOLUNTEERED to put himself in even more danger than was expected, and then risked his career by taking an ethical stand against the war. Bush never risked anything, and has calculated all of his actions for personal gain.

These things need to be said.

George W. Bush is a liar, a user and a reckless megalomaniac who's completely out of his depth.

But then, you knew that...

20. It's a great release, and needs airing.
Also, enjoyed Purity of Essence's post just prior to this one.

I, also, have the honor of being the first one, and only one to vote a "5" for the Yahoo article. Strange, isn't it?
