"Nightline" devotes show to reading war dead names
LOS ANGELES, April 27 (Reuters) - A U.S. television news program is to dedicate an entire broadcast to a reading of the names of American servicemen and women killed in action in Iraq.

Ted Koppel will read aloud the names of those killed since the March 2003 start of the Iraq war on the Friday edition of ABC News "Nightline", the network said on Tuesday. The reading will be accompanied by a photograph of each person named.

While "Nightline" and other U.S. TV news broadcasts have reported regularly on those killed in Iraq, "Nightline" executive producer Leroy Sievers said: "We realized that the casualties were on their way to becoming just numbers."

"'The Fallen' is our way of reminding our viewers -- whether they agree with the war or not -- that beyond the casualty numbers, these men and women are serving in Iraq in our names. and that those who have been killed have names and faces," said Sievers.

1. get ready, they will be branded as "traitors"
republicans like to support the troops when they get sent out, but once they die they like to forget they ever existed

they can't handle the truth..

2. Let's keep it sterile and "obituary column" - like, eh?
Shield our "beautiful minds" from what our government is doing. It's so much more, easy to swallow. Maintain that illusion which will keep the American people functioning in accordance with the corporatist PMA attitude of,...buy, buy, buy our products and deny, deny, deny reality.

Yup. 1984 was started by Reagan and is being polished by his fallout.

Pretty amazing, huh.

Do his suits cost as much as George's $5,000 suits?

7. George Stephanopolous talked this up during "This Week"
I pretty much started getting emotional the second he mentioned the upcoming program.

Not to be missed, in my opinion.

10. It would be a special program if it weren't for the fact that ABC
whored for this war as much as anybody else. It smacks of self-flagellation. Tomorrow's guest: someone from the AEI.

17. That Was Illegal When Nixon Was President
When we started holding monthly war protests in 1969, we usewd to read the names of the war dead from the pages of the Congressional record. The Nixon Administration pushed through a law making it a federal offense to publicly read out the names of war dead.
