Iran 'rushing to build nuke bomb'
An Iranian opposition group with sources inside Iran's military is making public a list of the senior military personnel and military units it says are involved in Iran's secret nuclear weapons programs.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) says in a summary of its findings that Iran is rushing to complete a first nuclear bomb in "between one and two years."

The opposition group says the nuclear weapons effort by a special military unit functioning secretly outside the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization is under the personal supervision of the Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran's supreme ruler.

In a recent report, the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency said parts of Iran's nuclear program are under military control.

2. "An Iranian opposition group..." Jesus - is there an Iranian Chalabi, too?
Are they just going to roll out Phase II of PNAC using the same shopworn bullshit they used to convince We The Sheeple to back a war of aggression based on lies?

I'm starting to wonder of these guys are just saying to themselves, "Fuck it, we're going to have a fight to stay in the White House in November, let's ramp up our plans NOW". The instability seems to me to be too stage-managed and provoked to just be one big series of blunders.

Putting my :tinfoilhat: on: maybe they figure that they'll be so busy stealing the election and stopping the rising dissent sure to follow such a theft that they are pushing ahead with their plans, with the added bonus of handing Kerry a political nightmare scenario just in case they don't manage to cling to power come this fall?

4. It's completely logical for Iran to build nukes
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 06:15 AM by kcwayne
Given that Iraq gets invaded and Korea doesn't, it is clear that nukes are a deterrent. That is why we (the US) continue to build them.

When Iran contrasts the US policy towards Iraq and Korea, and then considers the US antagonism towards Islamic theocracy (while curiously embracing a Christian theocracy for itself), they are absolutely compelled to build nukes to defend themselves against a US invasion/Christian crusade/oil grab.

The US has declared its intention to reform the Middle East. They know they are targets, and know the only deterrent against a US invasion is the threat of mushroom clouds going off in the battle field or over a US city.

The US cannot expect them to take their defense less seriously than we do, and not deploy the only weapon that can thwart US agression.

6. Who can blame them?
With a freaking madman in the oval office all Muslim nations should be rushing to get nukes. It is there only chance of survival.
