U.N.'s Blix: War wasn't justified
Ex-arms inspection chief likens Bush team to 'witch hunters'

By SAM SKOLNIK
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Hans Blix, the former chief United Nations weapons inspector, castigated the Bush administration in a Seattle speech last night, saying its zeal to go to war despite a lack of credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction made it "rather like the witch hunters of previous centuries."

Blix said President Bush and his top advisers willfully disregarded mounting evidence that such weapons no longer existed in Iraq.

"Was it a war of necessity? In my view, no," Blix said to a capacity crowd at the University of Washington's Hogness Auditorium. "It's hard to see that a war debated for months could be a war of necessity."

As apposed to making the U.N. oil-for-food folks rich? Saddam wasn't helping his starving populace, he was bankrolling his goon squad with the $$$ coming in from the U.N. program.

The United States' iRaq policy was the same under Clinton ("regime change") & will not change under a Kerry presidency. vote green!!!

8. "I don't want a draft or an invasion of Syria or Iran"
Been sneaking into the war room lately ???

How EXACTLY would Kerry's plan to hand this operation over to the U.N. keep the Syrian's and Iranians from influencing iRaq policy, elections, etc ??? The bloodshed will continue, nothing will change...

vote to withdraw from iraq, vote green...

14. "NO" ???
So you support out continued involvement in the current iRaq conflict?

Under a Kerry presidency, our military will still be involved in this war, whether it is under a U.N. mandate or not.

Progressives complain about Bush all day long, yet they advocate more of the same under Kerry. It's time for true change...

want us out???
vote green...

20. right now, I don't think the country can afford the luxury
of indulging the fantasy of a "green" world when one side, the GOP, which controls all dissemination of information through the media, controls the rights of the citizens of the country through various means like Patriot Act, is so galvanized and cohesive in the retention and expansion of their power and the other, the non-GOPers, is fractional, fragmented and splintered into numerous ideologies, each running in its own direction.

If the candidate wasn't Bush, then it would be a different story. But to me, a vote for green is a vote to put Bush back in for another 4 years. Those of us who oppose another Bush term will never gain the "critical mass" needed to push him out of office unless we all coalese and begin moving in the same direction.

Voting Green is a luxury a free country can't afford right now.

4. Debated?
Hardly. Bush made up his mind on it before he even took office. There was never any real debate.

Intentional deception for purposes of pursuing an imperialistic agenda of global power/dominance.

Get with the program *LOL*.

I am certain that ole' Blix has discovered PNAC. Hell, it seems like more people outside the USA know of it than within the USA.

Wrong, Clinton initiated it:
Iraq Liberation Act (Public Law 105-338)

Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 01:42 PM by BigBigBear
Clinton advocated regime change in Iraq, by Iraqis. He put us in a position of supporting Democracy, installed by Iraqis.

That's NOT the same as advocating bombing its cities to rubble, killing 10,000 of its civilians and occupying it at a cost of $1 billion/week.

Every Green vote supports Bush - when you guys get serious, give me a ring.

In the meantime, Karl Rove thanks you for your ill-informed but palpable efforts on behalf of his client.

17. Why Oh Why Wasn't Blix More Forceful About This
back when it counted?

Just a lot too late Mr. Blix. I watched him and waited for him to say this in 03, but it never came.

Was he intimidated by Bush cabal?

18. Sigh.
It's so sad that Bush* has made our country the proverbial "rogue superpower" -- invading sovereign nations on false pretenses.

Regime Change - November 2004.
