La. House Votes to Outlaw 'Hog-Dog' Events
AP to My Yahoo!

By KEVIN McGILL, Associated Press Writer

BATON ROUGE, La. - After watching grainy video images of dogs clamping their jaws onto squealing hogs, Louisiana House members voted 75-25 Tuesday to outlaw "hog-dog" events popular in some rural areas.

Democratic Rep. Warren Triche showed fellow legislators video news tape of hog-dog events in Clarke County, Ala., to try to convince them that such events are "violent cruel, inhumane, barbaric and damn well sadistic."

Triche said the violent hog-dog events contribute to Louisiana's poor national image and harm economic development efforts, but Rep. Troy Hebert, another Democrat, said Triche was attacking a feature of rural life.

The events, similar to cockfighting, take place in pits, and Triche said he believes they often are accompanied by illegal betting. News reports have recently drawn attention to hog-dog events in some parishes north of Baton Rouge.

2. Kick. I like most animals better than most people.
And I won't go into how totally sick this (gag) pastime is.

3. Oh, good, then it doesn't mean that Louisiana wants to interfere with ...
mogul skiing. It would be a shame to lose all of those Louisiana slopes for hot-dog skiing events. ;-)

5. 25?!!??!!
Twenty-five legislators voted to keep these events? Sigh.

Hey, I'm a southerner, and I'm all for rural rights and their differences over ubran areas, and I'll defend my former neighbors' rights to be hicks (like me) all day long, but c'mon! Pasttimes built exlusively on cruelty to animals is just indefensible, even by rural standards. Especially by rural standards, IMO.
