Al-Jazeera Fans Iraqi Unrest, U.S. Government Says (Update1)
April 27 (Bloomberg) -- Reporting from Iraq by the Qatar- based al-Jazeera television network is ``inflammatory'' and the U.S. has raised the issue with Qatar's government, a State Department spokesman said.

``We have deep concerns about al-Jazeera's broadcasts because again and again we find inaccurate, false, wrong reports that are, we think, designed to be inflammatory,'' State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said in Washington. The reports ``make the situation more tense, more inflamed, and even more dangerous for Americans, for Iraqis, for Arabs.''

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said earlier he had ``candid discussions'' on al-Jazeera with visiting Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim al-Thani, according to a State Department transcript.

The U.S. has in the past criticized al-Jazeera for broadcasting audio and videotapes purportedly from Osama bin Laden and other leaders of his al-Qaeda terrorist network. The station was founded in 1996 by the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, with a $150 million, five-year grant and a mandate that it be run by an independent board.

18. Sounds like Bushevik Orwellian Imperial Faux "News"
It always makes me laugh when Totalitarian Scum like the Busheviks cry like little babies if someone even remotely tries to do to them what they do unopposed to us.

Only Totalitarian Scum like the Busheviks could make me side with al-Jazeera, but there you have it.

In a credibility contest between the Imperial Family and al-Jazeera, the Imperial Family loses.

Hell, in a credibility contest between the Imperial Family and Saddam it's a tie!

2. Pot meet kettle
Come now- all the"evidence" we heard about Saddam's WMD, about how dangerous he was...that was not designed to be inflamatory? We all now know that all those reports were inaccurate, false and wrong.

Reminds me also of the baby incubator story during Gulf war 1......

And the US media is going out of its way to talk to Iraqis as much as they talk to Coalition PR people.

I remember a FOX News reporter talking to a resident of Falljah just yesterday, no I'm wrong. Maybe it was a CNN reporter, no wrong again.

I'm sorry I don't seem to recall seeing any US media people interviewing any Fallujah residents, I guess FOX/CNN/ABC/MSNBC, and
all the others must also be guilty of reporting inaccurate, false, and
wrong reports that are inflammatory.

Isn't it funny how this bunch always talks about freedom and liberty,
that is until they run into a media outlet that doesn't buy their crap. And then they either shoot and kill reporters, or attempt to get
them silenced.

I look at it this way, when Powell calls for FOX to be censored then he can do it to Al-Jazeerah.

Oh Well.;)

4. Thank God we don't have any network like that...
``We have deep concerns about al-Jazeera's broadcasts because again and again we find inaccurate, false, wrong reports that are, we think, designed to be inflammatory,'' State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said in Washington.
Really, why can't these ungrateful towel heads turn the station to Fox News for "true" reporting.

The hypocrisy of this administration is shameless.

6. Gee, I'm confused. According the RWers, the market will
sort all that out and there should be no fairness doctrine and the best TV networks will prevail if we let them do whatever they want to and not try to control them.

What happened to their principles???

11. SAIC was awarded at least 7 DoD contracts for broadcast media in Iraq.
George W. Bush aka The War President employs these mercenaries with our taxes, and these mercenaries are big political donors making a killing off war for profit:grr:
The USMC are being abused by taking reprisals for mercenaries, US military is not promoting democracy when it shuts down newspapers and targets the world press, which includes Al Jazeera, what's wrong with some USMC anyhow? My dad was USMC in WWII, he fought against militarism and fascism in defense of US, not corporations profiteering with war!

14. Look what I just found in Yahoo Iraq Slideshow....
It is not al-jazeera' fault. It is what the fuck the Americans are doing there to these poor people that is inflaming them. It can be seen daily in the yahoo Iraq slideshow by the many brave photographers showing the true story in pictures. Look at this baby! Pass them on...
