Colleges fret losing foreign students
BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- A steep decline in graduate school applications from foreign students has university administrators pushing the federal government to reform the visa process. Their argument: The trend could cost U.S. schools much-needed revenue and research help, and make America seem isolated in the eyes of the world.

International graduate student applications for this fall are down 32 percent compared with a year ago, according to a recent survey, and schools are extending application deadlines so they don't lose students still negotiating U.S. bureaucracy.

2. Good news for Canadian universities
I'm sure McGill, U. of Toronto, Queens, Western, UBC, etc., will be happy to accept more foreign students seeking a less hostile environment.

7. I'm sure there are lots of opportunities
My wife (an American) works at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Some of their top physicians are Americans. Contrary to some peoples' beliefs, Canada's much maligned (by conservatives in the USA) health care system is able to attract some top talent.

3. students from Arab nations have completely vanished
Five years ago, we had lots of students from Iran and other nations in the Middle East. They have completely disappeared. But the borders are wide open for undocumented workers who want to displace US workers at Walmart.

6. We haven't seen a decline in my program this year.
But we did last year because of visa problems.
