25. I had to take a break from the huge blasts being aired,...
,...it just was overwhelming to watch it as I was thinking "but, they didn't do anything to us,...they did nothing to hurt us".

Sometimes, I wish I could go completely numb for awhile. At least, I still have my sense of humanity still intact.

46. Unfortunately, civil commitment in most states requires
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 07:50 PM by Jackpine Radical
that three conditions be met:

1) That the patient have a diagnosed mental disease or defect
So far so good

2) That as a result of said mental disease or defect the patient poses substantial risk to self or others
again, no problem

3)That said mental disease or defect be treatable or reducible through medical management
There's the rub!

41. Who are they fighting?
Oh, yeah,...heh, heh, heh,...they are fighting those who are occupying their city and country.

That would be,...US.

Gee, what is wrong with these people that they don't want US corporatists taking over? I just do not understand? Do you? What's wrong with those people?

18. This is going to be win the battle lose the war
We're putting so much on this, that we're not seeing that the outcome is foing to do us serious harm. Sure, we've got the means to flatten Fallujah, but what does that say to the rest of Iraq? To the world?
How low have the mighty fallen, this isn't going to stop at Fallujah, or Najaf, or Baghdad, were in this mess for a very long time now.
Another slow walk in a hard rain.

19. Why is this being shown now?
I noted a BBC reporter this morning saying that the bombings yesterday and today in Falluja aren't particularly different than what's been happening for the past few weeks.

The only difference seems to be that the US now wants us to see what's happening, which is why they have installed a pool video feed of the bombing action.

So what's the point? Is it to get Americans used to the idea that the place is being bombed, and hence preparing the way so they can level the city, and people will figure there was no real choice?

This doesn't make a lot of sense, but I can't think of any other theory that does.

Be nice of some of the commentators were to address the obvious question of why they are now being shown bombings that were off-limits last week.

Not likely to happen, though, since the media are just happy to be have these "neat" visuals to spruce up their factless reporting.

36. Maybe because of Bush and Cheney at 911 inquiry
Perhaps this is a distraction, at least for their base. If they are fed pictures of Moslems being killed, they will not question Bushco's performance at the inquiry, and all the related matters. The sight of infidels being killed will soothe their cognitive dissonance on other matters.

38. Not a bad theory
Another diversion theory would have to do with the charges laid today against the troops who CBS got footage of abusing Iraqi prisoners (i.e. abductees).

Maybe they want Americans to see that not everyone is spending their time abusing prisoners, and most are focused on the main job -- shooting and bombing insurgents.

Having said that, I'm not sure I see the new pool feed as just a diversion. I think it's a setup for something in Iraq itself that is about to come, or that they think is about to come.

Or maybe they are just playing to their dissatisfied core, those who are complaining that the US is going too softly with the insurgents, and should be shooting and bombing more Iraqis.

30. Wanna hear what Kimmit the Frog just said, and I quote:
What you're seeing today in Falluja today is a series of defensive responses," General Kimmitt said. "When we get shot at, we will respond. We will not sit there and take fire, even though there is a cease-fire going on."

37. Somehow, I don't think these people will ever be
successfully conquered.

It appears that Murkins are in for a surprise about how the world works and about how citizens of a country feel about invaders coming in, blowing it up and occupying it "for their own good".

Somehow, I think this is all going to end very very very badly, worse than Vietnam.
