CBS/NY Times Poll: Kerry 46%, Bush 44%
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 05:43 PM by Karmadillo
Just reported on CBS Evening News.

On Edit: Poll also found Bush's approval ratings were at their lowest ever (46%, I think).

26. Thanks - I needed some *good* news!
This was great news! Even tho the public hasn't yet warmed up to Kerry, at least they are beginning to look at Bush less favorably!!!
The war is a prime factor in this election as it highlights all the other credibility gaps!!! Lack of WMDs a prime focus that woke some sheeple up IMO.

That ain't bad considering CNNs negative *spin* on Kerry lately, and the way all media praises the president now days. How many believe what the media says about ribbons! What a *moot* point when Bush didn't even show up - geeesh! All Kerry needs to do now is tell what he *will* do and hopefully the seeds of doubt will grow in independants and some swing conservatives minds.

Come on Kerry, pick a vice-pres and get the show on the road!!!

6. National polls are meaningless
due to the lack of a national vote.

Also, it's still very early.

19. Smite me with a smiley? Egad.
Polls may not accurately predict elections but they still are the #1 tool as far as shaping opinions go. I don't care if f they are right or wrong once an election is over.

34. WTF? Your statement is meaningless.
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 10:09 PM by TruthIsAll
Yes, it is a national poll. We vote for real in November. Is that what you meant? If so, thanks for reminding us.

Yes, it is very early. Six months to go. Thanks for reminding us again.

The purpose of a poll is either:

1) To give an accurate ( to within +/-3%) snapshot estimate of the electorate. That's what they are supposed to do. And CBS, Zogby, Newsweek do that.

2) To mislead the public. That's what CNN/Gallup, FOX, WP/ABC do.

7. Don't panic!
Remember when the last round of polls came out last week, and like 2 of them showed Bush with a lead of a few points? Remember how everyone was freaking out?

There we go, better now. The polls in this race are going to keep hovering up and down, right along 50/50.

Big surprise.(sarcasm) From the way people around here are talking, you'd think Bush had a twenty point lead.

9. Nice results, but we must steel ourselves against these polls.
They are propaganda. We need to know how to win a propaganda war. We're cadres, we're leaders and need to know that the polls are tools but have serious limitations. Momentum and how to build it are far more important than these pictures frozen in time.

10. The real good news is that Bush is at 44%
How many undecideds don't know Bush? Not many, that's for sure. When the Nader voters come home, we look especially good!

Obviously, polls don't mean much now but having Bush at 44% is significant.

16. Kerry should be up by 20 pts by now
After Clarke 9-11-01 testimony and John Dean's book, Kerry should be in double digits.

Kerry needs to get off his lazy behind and get campaigning.

There's barely a single Kerry story at all in this s***hole! I have a son in a "battleground" state and the Kerry campaign is fairly active. I can't wait tell retirement so I can leave.

32. After spending $98m Bush should be up by 20pts!
He's spent more than Kerry and still can't get any traction.

Bush's campaign spending rises to a hefty $98M
By Jim Drinkard and Judy Keen, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — President Bush has spent $98 million in his re-election campaign, nearly as much as he spent to win the Republican nomination four years ago.

In a report to be filed with the Federal Election Commission today, Bush discloses that he raised $184.4 million by the end of March, and his campaign had $86.6 million in the bank.

17. What the average Joe responds to
You've got to wonder what it takes to get through to people. We've pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that the *average* Bush-voting Yahoo doesn't read or watch the news or bother to keep themselves informed or think for themselves. How can we get our message across to them? I'm no campaign expert but two things might grab their attention and hold it until election day: 4.5 billion dollars a month and the threat of the draft. These two things should be mentioned in every speech, every television interview, every newscast. It should be the Democrats "lockbox." Hammer away at it again and again at eventually it might seep in.

30. What happened from last week?

It was the voice of doom and gloom around here at DU!
I was getting so depressed reading all the poll numbers.
I was in a real slump because I couldn't figure out why 1/2 of American was still asleep after...

War Gone From Bad To Worse
Dean Book
Woodward Book
Bush and his sorry "press" conference
The Mean Machine CondeLIEza and her lie like a rug testimony

The beat just kept going on and still the numbers for Bush went up?!

Just wondering, because 1/2 of the country sleeps 24/7, do you think it takes that population about 2-3 weeks to come out of their slumber and realize that Bush is CRAZY and DANGEROUS?

33. Can we now expect the media to ruminate about why
Shrub is dropping again the way they did last week about how he was "bouncing back"? Shit, Newsweek CW even gave Shrub an "up" arrow and Kerry a "down" arrow because of one week's worth of polls.
