Apology demanded from Karen Hughes (AGAIN!)
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 11:12 PM by Angel_O_Peace
Thursday, April 29, 2004 Posted: 7:58 PM EDT (2358 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Leaders of last Sunday's March for Women's Lives held a news conference on Capitol Hill Thursday to repeat their demand for an apology from Bush campaign adviser Karen Hughes for her remarks about abortion rights.

<snip>
"We are here to call upon Ms. Hughes to apologize. And we hope that President Bush will disassociate himself from these unfortunate remarks," she added.

<snip>
A call for Hughes to resign was made Thursday by Martha Burk, head of the National Council of Women's Organizations, who led a fight to get women golfers in the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia.

"She has called your mothers, your aunts, your grandmothers, your daughters, your sons and husbands terrorists. This has to stop. It is the worst kind of McCarthyism. You cannot speak out in this country any more without being called a traitor. The highest form of patriotism is to speak out against policies that do not benefit the citizens of your country," Burk said. "This must stop. She owes an apology, if not a resignation."

5. Women's Rights Groups

If we are to be saved, it may well be these women who save us. They seem to be able to speak the truth and not let themselves be shouted down while many others are content to continue to softpeddle. Their persistence and courage is uplifting.

12. Good move by the march organizers.
I bet they are so encouraged by the numbers that turned out that they are using this to their advantage and trying to get the message out about the Bush camp's true feelings about women's rights. Using Martha Burke was ingenius, they are milking this for all the press that they can get now that they know a million women were willing to take the trouble to go to Washington. I hope they hold a press conference every week until the election. Maybe the week before the election they can have Valerie Plame ask for the apology.

writers and policy-makers in this administration are. the "mind of bush" is a close-knit group of weirdos who need to be put in their place every day until he loses the election. we want them KNOWING THAT WE ARE THINKING ABOUT THEM ALL THE TIME.

20. oozing with slime and self righteousness is right!
Anyone ever hear her mention in interviews that the only reason she is in politics now is because she found a candidate who she can "really believe in." Seriously, does she really believe that crap?

It's the same thing with Mark McKinnon. Claiming that you were "inspired" by the Chimp is like claiming that you were moved to religion by Marilyn Manson.

22. No apology wanted or needed...
Has Bush apologized to the families for intelligence failures? Has our "National Security Advisor"?? Did Limbaugh apologize to the black quarterback for his comments? NOOOO!!! Apologies are only wanted and required from people who have a sense of honor. How many in this board feel that these people have shown it?

25. Email from the Women's Vote Center (DNC)
You Made History -- Now Take Action!
The March for Women's Lives this past Sunday was the largest, most diverse, and best organized issue-based demonstration in our nation's history -- and you made it happen!

Hundreds of marchers representing the DNC Women's Vote Center carried the names of thousands of Virtual Marchers, who wanted to show their support even though they could not come to Washington. You helped make the point that women and men all over America oppose the anti-woman, anti-choice policies of George W. Bush and his right wing allies -- and your message was heard!

Now we need to keep up the momentum -- and demand an apology from Bush-Cheney campaign adviser Karen Hughes!

Here's why: At the same time that we were marching for women's lives, Karen Hughes went on television to equate pro-choice Americans to terrorists — saying "I think after September 11th, the American people are valuing life more … our enemies in the terror network … don't value any life, not even the innocent, not even their own." Pro-choice leaders and Members of Congress have objected to this language, but Hughes refuses to retract her words.

It is outrageous for the Bush-Cheney campaign to try to use the events of 9/11 to insult pro-choice Americans and promote their own anti-choice policies!

Click http://www.democrats.org/wvc/action/200404280001.html?psc=alertto send a message to George W. Bush, demanding an apology from him and his senior campaign adviser. We'll take your message to the White House -- and let Bush know that while 1 million people marched for women's lives, millions more are ready to turn the direction of this country!

Ann F. Lewis
National Chair
DNC Women's Vote Center

30. Quick, someone tell me again
how smart and clever bushco is supposed to be! I can't see this doing anything but backfiring on them. Swing and moderate voters will hear this and be turned off, especially if they are in favor of abortion. How many times do they have to shore up their base? Is their hold that tenuous that they have to come out and say these outrageous things? This only has to be good news for the Democrats.

36. From the Daily Kos: she's a patholigcal liar
http://www.dailykos.com/main/2

Then I heard that Karen Hughes accused me of lying. And so I called Karen and asked her why she was saying this, and she had this almost Orwellian rap that she laid on me about how things she'd heard -- that I watched her hear -- she in fact had never heard, and she'd never heard Bush use profanity ever. It was insane.

I've obviously been lied to a lot by campaign operatives, but the striking thing about the way she lied was she knew I knew she was lying, and she did it anyway. There is no word in English that captures that. It almost crosses over from bravado into mental illness.
