HK democrats and tycoons slam one another
AP , HONG KONG
Friday, Apr 30, 2004,Page 6

Hong Kong business leaders are warning pro-democracy politicians to stop pushing so hard for universal suffrage now that Beijing has ruled out direct elections of Hong Kong's leader in 2007 and all legislators in 2008.

But pro-democracy figures charged yesterday that Hong Kong's tycoons were kowtowing to Beijing and putting their own interests ahead of the common good. The activists are urging people to keep taking to the streets to clamor for full democracy.

Textile businessman Chan Wing-kee (???) said challenging Beijing's authority was foolish, and warned that protests could harm Hong Kong.

1. HK's fight for democracy rages on
By Emily Lau ???

Friday, Apr 30, 2004,Page 8

Seven years after Britain handed Hong Kong over to the People's Republic of China (PRC), Beijing has lost patience with the Hong Kong people's demand for democracy. Within one month, the Chinese Government has moved with lightning speed to snuff out the people's desire for constitutional reforms.

On April 26, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's rubber stamp parliament, ruled out direct election by universal suffrage for Hong Kong's chief executive in 2007. It also rejected direct election for all members of the lawmaking Legislative Council (Legco) in 2008 by stipulating that half the Legco members be directly elected and the other half continue to be returned by functional constituencies consisting mainly of chambers of commerce, business and other professional people.

With this decision, Beijing has shattered the Hong Kong people's hope for speeding up the pace of democracy. It has ridden roughshod over public opinion and runs the risk of provoking strong reactions from many sectors of the community. With such blatant intervention, Beijing has abandoned any pretense of giving the territory "a high degree of autonomy" under former leader Deng Xiaoping's (???) concept of "one country, two systems."

2. The joke's on HK, but few are laughing
By Xiang Yang ??

Friday, Apr 30, 2004,Page 8

On April 26, the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress ruled that Hong Kong will not have direct elections for its leader in 2007, nor for all legislators in 2008.

Despite the fact that more than 10,000 Hong Kong people took to the streets to demand democracy on April 11, the ruling shattered hopes for greater autonomy with 156 approval votes, 1 abstention vote and none in opposition. A standing committee formulated on a non-democratic mechanism has denied the people of Hong Kong's most basic democratic right so Beijing can continue to control the political situation in Hong Kong.

Less than seven years after the handover, the late Chinese leader Deng Xiao-ping's (???) reassurance that people in Hong Kong could still go dancing and to the horse races rings hollow. The "one country, two systems" concept was put forth by Deng during his meeting with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in September, 1982. Three months later when China revised its Constitution, the term "one country, two systems" was incorporated into Article 31 under the heading of General Principles, making it a legally binding national policy.

3. The joke's on Jackie

Jackie Chan's (??) remarks about the presidential election being the biggest joke in the world really puzzled me, as I visited Taipei during the two weeks before and after March 20 and witnessed what was a very serious election with a turnout of about 80 percent.

The voting booth I visited was operated in a very orderly fashion.

Even when the pan-blue camp staged rallies I traveled around town and it seemed to me everything was business-as-usual, which only demonstrates that Taiwan is a true democratic country.

Jackie Chan, you have no idea what you are talking about, and I feel embarrassed for you!

Jackie 'Whore' Chan is a Communist Puppet!

Jackie Chan Rips Taiwan's Election

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Hong Kong film star Jackie Chan (news) said Sunday that Taiwan's recent presidential election was "the biggest joke in the world."

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040329/ap_en_mo/people_j ...

I'm putting the WORLD on notice. This is how Fascism, Communism, Brutal Regimes, Nazis, Hitlers rise. The use of immoral instruments masquerading as moral/just people. Chan, speaking from Communist China and bashing Democracy! This is as laughable as Trent Lott saying aWol got more votes. Jackie 'Whore' didn't mention that there are no elections in China but it's obviously the most corrupt and murderous regime on the planet. Where government officials falsely convict citizens, execute them and sell their body parts for cash.

Honk Kong has no ability to vote for its leader either. And the Communists are trying daily to take away ALL rights of Hong Kong citizens.

I was in Hong Kong when the Chinses astronaut went on tour in Hong Kong. Who was there as the Communist mouth piece? Jackie 'Whore'. Not only did I read in the Hong Kong newspapers, I spoke to many Hong Kong citizens questioning why Jackie 'Whore' was playing the puppet for the Communists. So many people felt this way, Jackie 'Whore' went on a TV 'attack dog tour' (like Condi Lice is doing now), to try to salvage his reputation. He just kept saying, 'We are all Chinese that's why I do it.'

Everyone I spoke to, and also saw personally HK TV interviews of people standing in line, (The space capsule was put on display at the Space Center next to Kowloon Star Ferry), the Hong Kong people said, 'I don't care about seeing Yang Liwei, astronaunt, I only want to see the space capsule.'

Most all HK people were really pissed at Jackie 'Whore' for his actions. Many said he's a traitor.

----------------------

You've got to look at this honestly people! Everyone stop and look what's go-in down! There isn't an official/knowledgable person in the world who'd say Taiwan's election procedures aren't the fairest in the world.

The people protesting are all the Fascists Mainland Chinese who invaded Taiwan in 1949. They are about the most corrupt group on Earth, have been stealing money from Taiwan since 1949 but now no longer have an easy method to steal.

The KMT Party is the richest political party in the world. How did they get this money?

Assassination attempt. Is Jackie 'Whore' willing to take a bullet in the stomach while riding in a Jeep? The investigation is going on but Jackie 'Whore' knows what happened?

You can read just about anywhere the near certainty of ALL Hong Kong media stars being part of the Hong Kong Mafia. Which I would assume has now been taken over by the Communist Chinese Government.

---------

ps. I'll never watch a Jackie 'Whore' movie again!

4. Hong Kong is discredited
By Vincent Wang

Friday, Apr 30, 2004,Page 8

China's denial of universal suffrage in electing Hong Kong's chief executive in 2007 and legislature in 2008 raises serious problems of credibility in its "one country, two systems" principle.

Under this scheme, affluent and educated Hong Kong residents are expected to rely only on Beijing's goodwill to protect their rights and freedoms. But they lack such customary institutional safeguards as a popularly elected executive, a legislature elected by universal franchise, an independent judiciary with powers of review or a federal framework including separation of powers.

Evidence from the last seven years shows that when the communist leadership feels insecure or indecisive, Hong Kong's democratization is sacrificed.

Beijing's track record discredits its attempt to incorporate other free and democratic societies, such as Taiwan.
