Dean preps for talkshow
Dr. Phil could soon be sharing the Paramount lot with another doc: Howard Dean (news - web sites).

While everything's still in the early talking stages, the former Democratic presidential candidate is mulling the idea of hosting his own syndicated gabfest. He's hooked up with ex-Big Ticket TV topper Larry Lyttle ("Judge Judy") and longtime political consultant Gerald Rafshoon, who would likely serve as exec producers of a pilot for any such project.

Dean is in Hollywood this week, and he's taking meetings with execs at Viacom-owned Paramount Domestic Television. Lyttle is still based on the Par lot, and he's helping Dean make the connection with the studio.

16. I had not heard about Sharpton possibly getting a talk show.
THIS is an ABSOLUTE MUST! This man MUST be harnessed for his wit, his fast-on-his-feet thinking, and his glib-ness - a buzz phrase every minute. Al Sharpton MUST get a talk show. He should have been the flagship show of Air America. But, until Air America gets its act together, he ought to be on a venue that's much more prominent. Sharpton deserves nothing less than a huge syndication deal or a national network. Dear GOD he's great! Everybody would listen, because he's just so provocative.

When I was on the radio, I can't tell you how many supervisors and PDs and producers and other folks I worked with who were always exhorting us air-staff people to be outrageous. Say provocative things. Make sure you out-Morning-Zoo the Morning Zoo people at the other station. Make sure you compete with Howard Stern and the purple section of USA Today. When I was at the staid ol' AP, my supervisor was ALWAYS pushing us to do things that would provoke the reaction of: "I can't believe what they just said on the radio." Or "I can't believe what I just heard on the radio." In fact, if my supervisor drove into work, listening either to Howard Stern or the Morning Zoo, and heard one of our items used, that made his day.

So Sharpton - YES!!! Howard Dean - YES!!! Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we NEED them badly! AND with Howard Stern on our side, to boot!

Those would be some mighty powerful talk shows.

6. Unfettered By The Need To Weigh Every Word
Dean would freaking smoke as a talkshow host!

The two things I liked about Dean was his scrappyness and his laugh.

Both those things would work well and to his favor in such a setting.

7. It will not be about politics...
very interesting
---
"The last thing we're going to talk about is politics," Lyttle said. "We'd talk about a myriad of other things instead of politics."

Dean's skein would likely have more in common with the talkshow Bill Clinton had been considering a few years back.

"He'd look at things like, What happens if you lose a sibling? What about when you're victimized by not having health care?" Lyttle said, arguing that Dean has the perfect persona for the small screen.
---

I would watch it, how about you.

8. Excellent News!!!!!!!!!!
However I doubt it will "not be about politics." If he's talking about What about when you're victimized by not having health care?...he's talking politics folks!

I'm glad it will be a more human face to politics tho instead of the simple crossfire rantings of policy minutia that bores most of us.

9. I think he means...
that it would not be about politicians. You know, they will not have House Rep blah, blah, blah or Repug spokesperson blah, blah, blah.

10. Yes, I think so too.
And that's great! I don't think we need another Hardball show with the same old hacks spewing the same old talking points.

Dean's got a great idea. Talk about the real issues and how they affect real people, not abstractions. I'm glad he's doing this, but I hope he doesn't give up on politics. Love that guy!

11. As soon as people who don't know find out what he's like
they are going to know within moments he was the target of a filthy ream job from our obsessively conformist, anal conservative media.

12. That is so true.
My retired Dad has been a lifelong repub, but hates Bush and will definitely not vote or him. When I told him about Dean, he was utterly clueless. I was surprised because he reads alot on the internet (hates Ashcroft and Patriot Act too). But all he knew about Dean, was that "he took himself out of the race with that crazy behavior."

I could just scream.

He definitely needs to stay in the public limelight. Hope this chance helps him learns how to handle the media better as well.

15. Scream II: The TV Series?
The media made such a big deal about Dean's 'scream' I would have never imagined that Dean would have his own show.

The media is beginning to recognize that there's a large market opposite
talk radio and Fox News that's been ignored and marginalized.

Dean heads a movement with a broad-based loyal following.

I wish Dean the best of luck.

19. I was just missing his energy in the race last night...
I'd really love to see Howard Dean stay visible. Without him, politics are so incredibly bland... buncha white guys in suits... Dean had a vibe like Clinton, even though he's yet another older white guy in a suit running the country.. he rocked the house.
