Oval Office Insult: Two 9/11 Dems walk out on Bush
The New York Post's Wood: "Oval Office Insult: Two 9/11 Dems walk out on Bush" has a new headline every 20 minutes, and the article no longer notes Commissioner Thompson's surprise at the early departures.

DEM DUO DISSES DUBYA IN OVAL OFFICE WALKOUT

By BRIAN BLOMQUIST and VINCENT MORRIS

April 30, 2004 -- In a stunning snub, two Democrats on the 9/11 commission yesterday abruptly walked out in the middle of the Oval Office interview with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Both early-departing panelists, former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey and ex-Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton, insisted they had prior commitments - but their sudden slip out the side door of the White House left Washington and some fellow commission members in shock. <snip>

A recent Fox News poll showed that the commission is seen as a partisan joke by 56 percent of Americans.

2. Rw'ers better be careful with this
If they raise too much of a stink, then Kerry might have to defend himself....if they push him too far he might be forced to abandon, the "agreement" not to talk about what when on in the "visit" (Dubya's tongue would fall out if he called it a meeting)

The RWers are too stupid and too intent on bashing Democrats to think about the consequences of their bashing.

3. Kerry and Hamilton probably had something more important to do ....
than listen to dickie and duhbie lie, waffle, flip and flop, and say "I have no recollection", ...like for instance, floss their teeth.

Or should I say, taking a good Cheney?

4. Were all the "commissioners" allowed to ask questions or just a
select few?

Prior commitments that would override such an "unprecedented" and "historic" session?

16. Did you see Bush after the interview??
He walked out into the Rose Garden, and there was NO mistaking, he was wearing body armor. He is looking a bit chubby and bloated lately, but he looked like the Michelin Man under that suit. Afraid of the Dems? Afraid of the reporters? What next? A kevlar bonnet when he steps outside?

24. I don't think he's 'justifiably afraid' ...
I think he's just friggin' paranoid and letting his own delusions of grandeur get way, way out of control.

32. Body armor
I can't usually stand to watch him so I thought he was just chubby.
But the fact that his head wasn't as chubby as his body did make me think of body armor.

Yup: what the heck is this paranoid idiot afraid of?
Otoh: at least he knows he's the most hated man in the world.

http://www.dailyvidette.com/news/2004/03/31/News/911-Hearings.Bring.Rice.Bush.Cheney.To.Stand-645760.shtml

<snip> Bush and Cheney have agreed to a single joint private session with all 10 commissioners, with one commission staff memberWH attorney Gonzalez) present to take notes of the session, White House counsel Alberto Gonzales said in a letter to the panel. Previously, the administration was only offering private interviews of Bush and Cheney with just the commission chairman and vice chairman.

25. I seem to remember hearing just yesterday that the chairpeople
were taking notes. This March article doesn't explicitly say that no one else is allowed to take notes. I haven't heard that anywhere.

8. Don't think any members were in shock at all. The WASHINGTON Post
didn't bear it out. The event with Canada's Paul Martin had been made LONG in advance, before Bush finally broke down and agreed to semi-attend the interview with his caretaker/interpreter, Cheney:
Two of the Democratic commissioners left the session about an hour early. Vice Chairman Lee H. Hamilton was scheduled to introduce the Canadian prime minister at a luncheon, and former Nebraska senator Bob Kerrey left to meet with Sen. Pete V. Domenici (R-N.M.) on funding issues related to New School University, where Kerrey serves as president.

9. Unless they say it was in protest (which hasn't happened, yet),
they never should have left. Very dumb move on their part. Makes it seem like Bush was taking "the meeting" more seriously than the commission, to the average 'mirikan.

14. Yes Bush* who fought against the commission right from the beginning
is going to be taken seriously. One who cannot testify by himself is going to be taken seriously. One who says they had many laughs is going to be taken seriously. One who will not allow any transcripts for future evidence is going to be taken seriously. Bob Kerrey who is a Medal of Honor winner will not be taken seriously because he couldn't stand Bush* joking about such a serious matter will not be taken seriously because everyone thinks Bush* is such a "moral" man. Can I have some of whatever it is that you are taking?

20. Hey, I agree, but if they walked out
in protest (or to make a point), they need to say so, otherwise, it was a dumb move. Why make it seem like they're taking it as un-seriously as Bush?

10. Oh the nerve!
They walked out on the Boy King! How dare they do anything disrespectful like attend to business set-up long prior, because the boy decided he could find a little time this particular day to speak!

This is so much worse than Congressmen asking Bill Clinton where in the White House his semen came out and then writing a porno book about it with our taxes. :eyes:

the loosers who watch Fox News are by and large a motly collection of undereducated, low life, knuckle draggin, inbred hicks, with the collective IQ of a piece of tree bark.

No margin of error in this poll.

Correct if I'm wrong on this - but labelling Kerrey and Hamilton as a "Dem Duo" might not even be factually correct.

And Kerry and Hamilton didn't care to hang around and bask in the glow from the Boy-King and his Regent....

If Fox News reported a poll that said "99% percent of Americans say Sun sets in the West" I would STILL question its validity.

30. King, the WH reporter said that the two notified
the WH in advance that they could only stay two hours - and that was what the original time table was. I was aghast (well okay not) when this a.m. Fox began to pump this in a major way and saying it was a Dem Dis............if you want to dis you don't notify in advance. My god the depths of misinformation they will go to.

34. Thank you, BabsSong, for point this out. It's damned important
and it has been publicized, but the right-wing halfwits refuse to acknowledge it, as it detracts from their big lie they're trying to create about what happened.

Hamilton was scheduled well in advance, BEFORE Bush agreed to break down and do the meeting, to be available for Canada's Prime Minister on his three-day visit, which is totally scheduled for tons of meetings all three days.

Kerrey's appointment was also fixed.

As a side-note, a nearly brain-dead freeper female called my local talk show yesterday afternoon, claiming that "Kerry" the candidate had the nerve to "walk out" on the pResident, and launched into an anti-John Kerry tirade! So predictable. :silly:
