Calif. truckers block freeways in gas-price protest
LOS ANGELES -- Truckers parked their rigs on a busy freeway today, snarling rush-hour traffic for miles in a wildcat protest over high diesel prices. At about 7:30 a.m., about five tractor-trailers stopped in the northbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway in Commerce, 17 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"They just sort of slowed traffic down, parked their trucks, and got out," CHP Officer Ricardo Quintero said. "They just took off in a car."

Authorities drove some rigs away and two trucks hauled others out of traffic. Less than an hour later, the lanes were clear, Quintero said. Several truckers were arrested, he added.

The American Automobile Association said California diesel prices were as high as $2.41 a gallon, compared with less than $2 a gallon in other states.

3. Thing about it is the assholes are protesting CA's regulatory clean air
laws claiming THAT is what has raised the price of gas, but an op-ed piece on PBS last night demonstrated that oil co profits are up 900% in California over the past couple years...they are shutting down refineries right before peak vacation times

One other interesting fact...California gets MOST of its oil from

4. Just wait..
....until another 40 million whiney, "entitled" North Americans demand their cheap gasoline. The 6-laners will be blocked from San Diego to Cape Cod.

Could someone please give these people a quick lesson in geology?

6. It's the trucker's God given right to enjoy low fuel prices
Tough ass to them. At some point the infalted energy prices are going to have to have an impact on the economy. It isn't possible to ignore it forever. Perhaps they will impound those trucks and turn them into scrap metal destined for manufacturing companies in China.

7. Good for them ~ I'm sorry it was only a handful of truckers
They need to get the Teamsters (Oh ya they are republicans now, never mind)Independent Truckers to stick together and maybe even form a Union that will fight for what is right and decent. There is no reason in hell that they should be paying $2.41 per gallon for deisel fuel. Hell even in Alaska deisel is only $1.70 per gallon. Remember folks virtually everything you buy is trucked to your store. If you want all your prices to go sky high just don't support the truckers.

8. rail transport is way more energy efficient than over-the-road trucking
leave the trucks parked right where they are, and let's start developing some rational transportation modalities!!

9. When liberals protest and close down traffic, there's always a huge
contingency that claims that their protest is counter-productive because the delays and inconvenience caused by blocking traffic pisses people off. Do you hear the same about these truckers?
