(Jesse) Helms' granddaughter files for election
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Sen. Jesse Helms looked on as his granddaughter filed papers to run for public office Friday, an emotional moment for a man considered a father of the national conservative movement.

"I guess I'm choking up a little bit," Helms said after Jennifer Knox formally announced her bid for a District Court judgeship in Wake County. "Good luck to you, baby. I'm proud of you."

Knox, an assistant district attorney, is the first direct descendant of the five-term Republican senator to run for office. The 30-year-old said her grandfather's political legacy prompted her in part to run for judge.

"His notion of public service. ... That's really made an impact on me," said Knox as she sat with Helms at a table at the State Board of Elections.

1. "Hitler Helms" Granddaughter is PURE EVIL!!!
God save any non-white that comes before her if she, God forbid, wins.

3. Her own words
"His notion of public service ... That's really made an impact on me."

A kind interpretation of that is that she doesn't want to be anything like him.

An unkind interpretation would be that she wants to take the oath of office in her KKK robe.

5. pretty harsh

Seems I remember some articles about her not being tough enough as a prosecutor, but I probably don't pay as much attention to Wake County stuff as I should. She is a Republican, though, and this is Jesse country...

4. I guess if Alessandra Mussolini can do it, so can this woman.
Then again, Jesse hasn't been strung up in public yet like his Italian political cousin, though he may have seen others strung up.
