Abizaid urges Pakistan, other Muslim nations to send troops to Iraq
WASHINGTON (AP) The top U.S. military commander in the Persian Gulf area said Friday he needs no more American troops in Iraq, but he pointedly urged Muslim nations to send forces.

Gen. John Abizaid, chief of the U.S. Central Command, also disclosed that about a dozen Iraqi security battalions, which failed to perform in recent weeks of anti-occupation violence in central and south-central Iraq, are being reorganized and retrained. As a result, he said, those units will not be ready for any major challenges until at least November, a delay of two months from previous schedules.

In a video teleconference with reporters at the Pentagon, Abizaid said from his Persian Gulf headquarters that despite a rising death toll and other recent setbacks he remains confident that the U.S.-led military coalition in Iraq will bring stability.

He urged the American public to be patient and to understand that results will come slowly.

1. Oh, Muslim forces, they're coming allright. Only not for what you hope.
They're coming to hand you your head, General.

4. Who elected Abizaid king?
Ever since bush started "leading" we have all these generals calling the foreign policy shots. The whole structure is completely out of control.

5. Rove.
It's temporary, and designed to pander to the base. Generals taking charge and whatnot.

Westerners with a very unsavory history of brutal colonialization?

Do these guys have an effing clue or have they simply gone mad?

He should be praying that NO Muslim nation send any troops...

8. I suspect the generals have taken over and said fluck you to Rummy
and Cheney and boy king. This may be the only way they see of getting us
out of Iraq. This sure isn't Rummycheneydummy because they would never
never let go.

But I agree. When Abizaid says "the Iraqis have to fight for themselves"
- - - - - against who???? We're the only ones they're fighting.

10. why all of a sudden this Abizaid flip-flop
very confusing and annoying ... maybe Gen. Clark knew something the rest of us don't when he wondered out loud on Paula Zahn why Abizaid was not asking for more troops ... could it be that since rummysmarmyanddummy know there aren't more troops available to deploy, that now Abizaid is saying he DOESN'T need any more troops???? :wtf:

And, even after the whole globe has been exposed to snippets of human rights abuses by the US,...he still has some delusion that the Muslims will help out.

He needs to get on some anti-psychotic medication, right away!!
